How you'll power our business as an Applications Manager
At DCC Energy Great Britain, our ambition is to become the most influential and respected energy transition company in the market. Through our market-leading businesses, including Flogas Britain, Certas Energy and Energy Management Services (EMS), we're helping customers navigate the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

As an Applications Manager within our central Energy Products & Solutions (EPS) division, you'll lead a growing Applications function that sits at the heart of our energy solutions business. Acting as the gateway between sales opportunities and technical delivery, you'll ensure projects are appropriately prioritised, resourced and progressed from initial enquiry through to technically robust, commercially viable proposals.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build and shape a central Applications capability supporting solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), CHP, generation and integrated energy solutions across multiple DCC Energy businesses. You'll combine operational leadership, resource management and process improvement expertise to create a scalable, high-performing function that supports continued growth across the Group.

What you'll be doing

• Applications Function Management


• Leading the day-to-day operation of the Applications function.


• Acting as the primary route into the team for requests from sales teams and operating businesses.


• Managing incoming demand across multiple businesses and technologies.


• Assessing priorities, workload and delivery timescales.


• Allocating opportunities across the Applications team.


• Maintaining visibility of active opportunities, team capacity and resource requirements.


• Escalating resource constraints, delivery risks and competing priorities where required.


• Ensuring opportunities progress through the agreed Applications process.

Resource & Capacity Planning

• Owning short and medium-term resource planning across the function.


• Forecasting workload and future resource requirements.


• Balancing workload across Applications Engineers and Specialist Applications Engineers.


• Coordinating specialist technical support and site survey resource.


• Identifying capability gaps and supporting recruitment planning.


• Working closely with the Director of Energy Products & Solutions to support business growth.

Opportunity, Pricing & Proposal Management

• Maintaining oversight of opportunities from initial enquiry through to approved proposal.


• Coordinating site surveys, technical modelling, concept design and proposal development.


• Managing pricing workloads and proposal deadlines across the team.


• Ensuring assumptions, commercial allowances, risks and supplier inputs are clearly documented.


• Supporting consistency across estimating methodologies, pricing structures and proposal outputs.


• Monitoring progress against agreed milestones and governance requirements.


• Coordinating engineering, delivery and specialist technical input where required.

Survey Coordination

• Planning and coordinating site survey activity across the Applications team.


• Allocating appropriate survey resource.


• Coordinating survey schedules with sales teams, operating businesses and customers.


• Improving standardisation of survey methods, processes and outputs.


• Ensuring surveys provide the information required to develop technically robust and deliverable solutions.

Service Levels & Performance

• Establishing and maintaining clear service expectations across the Applications function.


• Monitoring proposal turnaround times, workload and capacity.


• Developing practical KPIs and performance measures.


• Improving consistency and accuracy across pricing and proposal outputs.


• Identifying bottlenecks, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.


• Providing regular reporting on workload, demand and team performance.

Team Leadership & Development

• Providing direct people management for the Applications team.


• Conducting regular one-to-ones, objective setting and performance reviews.


• Coaching and developing team members.


• Supporting career progression and training plans.


• Building a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team culture.


• Ensuring specialist expertise is retained while broader multi-technology capability continues to develop.


• Technical & Cross-Functional Coordination


• Working closely with the Lead Applications Engineer and Technical & Engineering teams.


• Ensuring appropriate technical governance is applied across opportunities.


• Coordinating technical reviews and specialist input when required.


• Acting as the operational interface between Applications, Sales, Project Delivery and wider business functions.


• Supporting smooth progression of opportunities through the sales, applications, engineering and delivery lifecycle.

What we'll need from you

Essential

Proven experience managing an engineering, technical applications, proposals, estimating, pre-construction or similar operational team.
Strong people leadership and team management capability.
Experience managing multiple competing opportunities, projects or workstreams.
Strong workload, resource and capacity planning skills.
Experience coordinating technical and commercial activities against challenging timescales.
Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
Commercial awareness with an understanding of the importance of robust technical assumptions and accurate proposals.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively across multiple teams, business units and seniority levels.
Experience improving operational processes, workflows and team performance.
