The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest humanitarian organization delivering food assistance to over 100 million beneficiaries in 88 countries on a yearly basis. With over 5,600 trucks, 50 ships and close to 100 planes on the move every single day, WFP, together with its partners, operates a global network to deliver life-saving food assistance to the most hard-to reach places. Supply Chain is critical to all aspects of WFP's operations, be it emergency response, capacity building, school feeding, nutrition or other programmatic interventions and we share our expertise with the wider humanitarian community, helping them to achieve their own operational goals. The Supply Chain and Delivery Division comprises a vast array of complex and diverse functions, including in-house shipping, aviation, procurement, logistics and food safety assurance. The Division aims to ensure efficient, transparent, and resilient operations that consistently deliver the right kind of assistance to those in need.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Head of IM and Comms for the Supply Chain and Delivery Division, and in close coordination with the Services across the Division, the Communications and Media (COM) Office, Regional Bureaux and County Offices, the Communications Officer is responsible for developing, planning and implementing communications activities that support the overall communications strategy and objectives of the Division. Specific accountabilities/responsibilities include:
• In collaboration with the Head of Communications & IM, lead the implementation of theDivision’s communication strategy for a few channels, such as wfp.org, in line with theDivision’s overarching strategic vision and mission.
• Lead and manage the production of division-wide infographics, brochures, videos and articlesand support the production of podcasts the divisional newsletter and social media posts asrequired and liaise with graphic designers, video production companies and any other internalor external stakeholder as relevant. This includes but is not limited to: conceptualizing;designing, identifying and writing stories, editing and post-production.
• Support the compilation of reports as per donor requirements (end of year, mid-year, ad hoc)
• Tangibly increase visibility of the Division’s role and impact in accordance with its missionand vision, including through regular news feeds/updates on global platforms and socialmedia posts.
• Identify and inform the IM and Comms team of potential communication opportunities.
• Collaborate with other units and teams across the Division and WFP more broadly to ensure effective use of any visual and communication products, both internally and externally. This would include providing advice on tailoring communication materials for use across different channels adhering to WFP corporate guidelines.
• Travel to the field as required to gather and produce new content.
• Any other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education:
• Advanced University degree in Communications, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses
Experience:
• Minimum 8 years of experience in specialized communications practices
• Proven track record of producing and disseminating high quality communication materials
• Managed small teams of staff with related areas of expertise in the delivery of innovative communications projects.
• Demonstrated abilities to work with a wide range of partners/stakeholders
Knowledge
& Skills:
• Mastering communications concepts and principles, especially as they pertain to producing videos, with a broad knowledge of best practices, techniques combined with specialized knowledge in health and humanitarian communications.
• Ability to produce high-quality communication materials at a rapid pace
• Ability to produce concise talking points/briefings for project decision making
• Ability to create high-quality reports targeted at senior leadership audiences
• Expert knowledge in modern communication strategies, practices and tools
• Good knowledge of supply chain thematic areas and vocabulary
• Good knowledge of development thematic areas and vocabulary
• Good understanding of the global humanitairan and UN ecosystem and its players
• Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
• Highly proactive and able to work with a great degree of autonomy
• Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders with credibility and tact
• Ability to perform in a multi-cultural settings and different geographies
• Extremely result oriented and able to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to adapt quickly and to work in an entrepreneurial setting
Languages:
Fluency in English and knowledge of another UN language (e.g. Spanish, French, Arabic) is desirable.
