BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline humanitarian agency addressing
hunger and malnutrition worldwide. WFP tackles poverty and hunger through a range of interventions:
saving lives and protecting livelihoods in emergencies; investing in the prevention and mitigation of
disasters; restoring and rebuilding lives and livelihoods in post-conflict or post-disaster situation; and
other interventions to tackle hunger. Each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in
over 80 countries.
In the last few years, WFP has been investing considerable resources to enhance the end-toend
visibility of its Supply chain (SC) Operations. The Supply Chain Planning Unit (SCO) has been
leading this transformation bringing the best practices from private sector and academia on the
areas of SC Planning, Visibility, and Optimization and applying it in concrete operations in the
humanitarian context with evident gains to the organization.
Recognizing the experience of WFP in these areas, some Governments and Organizations in the Health
Sector are approaching WFPs SC Chain Planning Unit with requests for technical assistance to support
on some of the most complex Health Supply Chain operations in the world.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Consultant will support existing SC Planning & Optimization Projects in particular the ones related
to the assistance WFP is providing to the humanitarian health sector. Specific responsibilities include
but are not limited to:
Manage the scoping and implementation of the WFP Service Provision Control Tower with the
Global WFP Internal service providers like Shipping, Aviation and Bilateral Service Provision
Monitor progress against project milestones to help ensure timely completion of project
deliverables and keep business stakeholders duly informed
Recommend system and/or process enhancements to further improve supply chain
performance
Engage with humanitarian partners to explore how WFP’s expertise and analytical solutions can
be used to better plan and optimize their supply chains, with a strong focus on the Health
sector
Support the overall development and application of SC Planning tools and methodologies as
required.

Support preparation of operational supply chain management analyses for complex
emergencies as required
Support conceptual and quantitative analyses of prioritized supply chain improvement
projects as required
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Supply Chain, Engineering or Business
Management.
Experience: At least four years of working experience related to Supply Chain industry
Prior experience in SC related industry including business analysis, process
mapping, data analytics, and development of SC optimization tools is preferred
Prior experience in Supply Chain related industry including business analysis,
process mapping, data extraction and analysis, and development of SC
optimization tools within global organizations
Prior experience working with governments, UN agencies, and/or NGOs
Prior experience working in or with the Health sector
Knowledge
& Skills:
Advanced use of Microsoft Excel and experience working with data visualization
tools (e.g. Tableau)
Strong analytical abilities (quantitative and qualitative), with the ability to think
outside the box
Balance complexity and idealism with pragmatism
Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to perform in a
multi-functional and multi-cultural team
Strong time management skills with the ability to plan ahead and anticipate
requirements, problems, and obstacles
Focus and commitment to generate content on short notice, while maintaining a
healthy work-life balance
Committed and motivated to achieve the objectives of WFP
Languages: Verbal and written fluency in English
Basic Verbal and written in French
