Environmental Data Scientist

At Uni Systems, we are working towards turning digital visions into reality. We are continuously growing and we are looking for a professional Environmental Data Scientist to join our UniQue Ispra team.

What will you be bringing to the team?

• Gathering relevant field data from existing data bases covering European and selected non-European waters;
• Developing tools to read these data (in their various formats), detect errors and organize them in a consistent data set;
• Developing tools to analyse, harmonize, quality-check and visualize these data;
• Supporting the processing of Earth Observation data;
• Supporting the assessment of Earth Observation data with the collected field data in hindcast mode;
• Supporting the preparation of the project near-real-time experiment

What do you need to succeed in this position?

• At least 3 years of specific expertise in:

1. Python programming
2. Unix environment
3. Management of data in various formats (e.g., csv, NetCDF, Shapefile …).
4. The field of data management and analysis;

• At least 2 years of specific expertise in statistical analysis of data.
• Expertise in the management, processing and analysis of geospatial data (e.g., Earth observation satellite data, spatial model outputs);
• Experience in other programming languages (IDL, R…), machine learning applied to data and in environmental sciences.
• Expertise is requested to large data sets, preferably in the field of Earth/environmental sciences, remote sensing applications or modelling
• Expertise requested in working in a Linux environment;
• Sound knowledge of tools and software for the management, processing and analysis of geospatial data (e.g., spatially-distributed in-situ data, Earth observation satellite data, spatial model outputs);
• Capacity for planning and taking initiative in an IT environment applied to scientific endeavors;
• Good English level requested for reporting and software documentation;
