To expand the Optical and Mechanical Engineering team, inside the HW R&D team, we are looking for a passionate Optical Design Engineer.
The figure will directly report to the Optical and Mechanical Engineering Manager and will work together in strict contact with the rest of HW R&D team to study, design and test cutting edge biometric image capture devices for civil, border control and law enforcement applications.
Responsibilities:
Design, simulate and test of optical systems for:
• image sensor systems
• light user interfaces
• technical illuminators
Design, simulate and test of optical elements:
• lenses
• lens assemblies
• mirrors
• illuminators
• light diffusers
• light guide
• diffusers
• optical coatings
• optical films
In the preliminary phase of image sensor assessment
• define image sensor(s) features basing on the required application
• design and build prototype systems for image capture
• plan and conduct image capture collection
• reasoning with scientific method on collected data
• resume results of the test made
• Design optical systems working at single or multiple wave lengths
• Realize fast DMU and feasibility studies to support product development.
• Opto-mechanical design of optical modules (design of electronics outline and mechanical parts to support optical parts like mirrors, lenses)
• Documentation generation (BOM, technical reports, assembly procedures, test reports)
• Follow and perform tests on assemblies, materials, parts and note/present results.
• Follow suppliers of optical related parts for the prototyping phase and support to qualify suppliers for production
Requirements:
• Experience of working in R&D contexts.
• BSc/MSc in Engineering/Physics or equivalent.
• Relevant experience in optics design and simulation. Knowledge of Zemax will be beneficial.
• Knowledge of image sensors working principles.
• Knowledge of light source components optical and electric principles.
• Deep knowledge of materials for optics (glasses, films, coatings, light diffusing materials, LED, plastics, …)
• Deep knowledge of optical elements manufacturing technologies and their limits.
• Relevant experience in design of thermoplastic material parts will be beneficial.
• Experience rapid prototype processes including 3D printing, CNC, and laser cutting.
• Experience in CAD modeling and DMU. Knowledge of PTC Creo will be beneficial.
• Self-motivated, highly capable of planning and executing projects under strict timelines
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills

• Good level of spoken and written English language (upper-intermediate)
