General Profile\n\nRequires solid knowledge and experience in Materials, with a focus on formulation and characterization of advanced optical materials and photonics. Continues to develop expertise in photonic and optoelectronic material systems. Builds understanding of laboratory processes and company objectives. Works on moderately complex formulation and testing tasks, analyzing solutions using established chemical and analytical methods. Operates under moderate guidance and direction.\n\nThis role operates within the R\u0026D Team of the Photonic Platform Business and involves laboratory\u2011based research and experimental development activities aimed at advancing and validating innovative optical material technologies.\n\nCore Competencies\n\n\u00b7 Time and Priority Management: Basic understanding of managing multiple formulation and testing activities. \n\u00b7 Relationship Building: Ability to collaborate effectively with material scientists, optical engineers, and system integration teams. \n\u00b7 Project Management: Working experience in planning and executing formulation and characterization projects. \n\u00b7 Material Formulation: Working experience in preparing chemical mixtures, coatings, and composites for optical applications. \n\u00b7 Analytical Testing: Basic understanding of spectroscopic, thermal, and mechanical characterization techniques. \n\u00b7 Failure Analysis: Basic understanding of identifying root causes in material performance issues. \n\u00b7 Data Analysis: Basic understanding of interpreting chemical and optical property data. \n\u00b7 Problem Solving: Working experience applying chemical principles to resolve formulation and performance challenges. \n\u00b7 Communication \u0026 Collaboration: Working experience in preparing technical documentation and presenting findings. \n\u00b7 Attention to Detail: Basic understanding of precision in formulation and testing processes.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDevelop and optimize materials formulations for advanced optical materials, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.\n\nPerform material characterization using techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis.\n\nConduct performance testing of formulated materials under optical and environmental conditions.\n\nTroubleshoot formulation and performance issues, perform root cause analysis, and propose corrective actions.\n\nCollect and analyze chemical and optical data, preparing detailed reports and recommendations for design improvements.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure material compatibility with optical systems and prototypes.\n\nEvaluate and implement new materials processes and analytical tools for advanced material development.\n\nContribute to internal documentation for formulation procedures, test protocols, and material specifications.\n\nEducation: Bachelor\u2019s or Master\u0027s Degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or related field.\n\nBusiness Travels: Willing to Travel 25% internationally.\n\nFunctional Knowledge\n\nDemonstrates growing expertise in chemistry with an emphasis on optical material formulation and characterization.\n\nBusiness Expertise\n\nUnderstands how material development supports key business drivers in optics and photonics.\n\nLeadership\n\nProvides informal guidance to junior team members; no formal supervisory responsibilities.\n\nProblem Solving\n\nApplies chemical judgment and technical experience to solve moderately complex formulation and testing challenges.\n\nImpact\n\nImpacts quality and reliability of optical materials and contributes to team objectives.\n\nInterpersonal Skills\n\nCommunicates technical concepts clearly in collaborative settings.\n\n## Qualifications\n\n### Education:\n\nMaster\u0027s Degree: Materials Engineering (Required), Master\u0027s Degree: Physics and Nanotechnology\n\n### Skills\n\n### Certifications:\n\n### Languages:\n\nEnglish (Required), Italian (Required)\n\n### Years of Experience:\n\n2 - 4 Years\n\n### Work Experience:\n\n## Additional Information\n\n### \n\n### Shift:\n\nDay (Italy)\n\n### \n\n### Travel:\n\nYes, 25% of the Time\n\n### \n\n### Relocation Eligible:\n\nNo\n\n### Referral Payment Plan:\n\nNone\n\nApplied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
