JOB TITLE: UX Lead
TYPE OF CONTRACT: WAE consultancy, Level II
UNIT/DIVISION: Digital Solutions Delivery Branch (TECD)
DUTY STATION (City, Country): Remote working
DURATION: 11 months (120 days)
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Senior UX designer provides User Experience (UX) oversight across the portfolio of IT Solutions delivered by the Branch, to ensure the Design System is properly adopted and IT solutions achieve a high level of usability and accessibility.
The Senior UX designer ensures that AI capabilities are translated into clear, usable, and trustworthy user experiences and seeks to improve the way the Organization incorporates AI tools in the end-to-end design process.
In addition, he/she ensures adoption of the Design System and of the branding guidelines, helping to achieve the highest quality standards of technical usability, user acceptability and domain suitability.
This role
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Increase the design maturity of the organization and ensure the strategic value of design is well understood and leveraged at each stage of the solution delivery process.
•Drive the evolution of WFP’s design processes in the direction of improving the way the organization leverages AI tools for discovery and prototyping purposes.
•Interact with WFP’s product manager, interface design and front-end development communities to stay-in-touch with the user interface and design requirements of existing and emerging IT solutions.
•Oversee and coordinate user experience (UX) activities across a portfolio of IT solutions, ensuring that interface designers and front-end developers adhere to the guidelines outlined in WFP’s Design System, and to UX best practices to ensure a high level of usability and accessibility of IT solutions.
•Mentor junior User Interface designers.
•Other related duties, as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
•Up-to-date design documentation and experimental protocols for AI-supported design, including handover workflows for developers.
•Interface components which are usable and accessible.
•High quality UX in prototypes and final interfaces.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University degree in interaction design, interface design, human-computer interaction, psychology, anthropology, computer science, multimedia, business administration or related fields.
Experience:
At least six years’ experience being responsible for Design Systems, and with user experience (UX) & user interface (UI) design.
Knowledge & Skills:
•Proficiency designing high-quality user experience and user interface elements, adhering to corporate branding standards;
•Proficiency in writing UX guidance and documentation;
•In-depth knowledge of UX/UI design (wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes) and related tools;
•In depth knowledge of usability and interaction design principles and best practices; and
•Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
•Experience with generative AI, machine learning, or conversational interfaces
•Familiarity with concepts such as: Explainable AI (XAI), Trust, transparency, and user control, Ethical and responsible AI design
•Experience with AI-powered design tools

•Excellent communication, presentation skills;
•Organized and detail oriented with strong judgement/decision-making skills;
•A passion for new technology tools and usage of those tools;
•Ability to plan and organize work and communicate effectively;
•Ability to be resourceful, take initiative and use mature judgment;
•Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
