BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The WFP Human Resources Division (HRM) supports approximately 20,000 employees across a highly decentralized global workforce. Effective, consistent, and engaging internal communications are critical to ensuring HR initiatives are clearly understood, widely adopted, and meaningfully contribute to employee engagement.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Supervisor Role: HRM Communications

  • Working arrangement: in person

  • Duration of assignment: 4-6 months, extendable to max. 12 months

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications & Knowledge Management Fellow will provide targeted, hands-on support to the HR Communications team, located within the Human Resources Division’s Front Office, contributing to the production of high-quality digital, visual, and written content in line with WFP and HRM branding standards.

The Fellow will support the delivery of HR communications outputs with a strong emphasis on internal employee engagement, structured review and improvement of HR’s intranet presence, and the establishment and initial operationalisation of WFP HR LinkedIn Life Pages.

Under the direct supervision of the HR Communications team, the Fellow will be expected to contribute to the following areas:

  • Produce high-quality internal communication content, including visuals, short-form written content, campaign assets, videos, and employer storytelling materials.

  • Proactively propose and develop creative communication formats to increase employee engagement across HRM channels (e.g. intranet, Viva Engage, newsletters).

  • Support the structured review of HR’s intranet presence, including content relevance, clarity, and visual coherence, and contribute to improvement actions.

  • Contribute to the setup, content planning, governance principles, and initial roll-out of LinkedIn Life Pages, ensuring alignment with employer branding objectives.

  • Support the development and execution of HR communication campaigns linked to priority HR themes, including the HR Strategy, Workforce of the Future, Staffing Framework, and Performance Management.

  • Contribute to Knowledge Management initiatives within the Division.

  • Support HR branches and internal stakeholders to collect inputs, stories, data, and visuals, ensuring timely delivery of communications products.

  • Support basic performance tracking of communication outputs (e.g. intranet metrics, engagement data) and consolidate lessons learned for end-of-year reporting and forward planning.

  • Support the HRM Front Office with any other duties as required.

Key Deliverables: By the end of the assignment, the Fellow will have contributed to the delivery of:

  • A defined set of internal engagement materials or campaign concepts aligned with HR priorities.

  • A structured LinkedIn Life Page framework, including draft editorial calendar and initial content assets.

  • Drafted/finalised written, visual, and multimedia assets for internal and external HR communications.

  • Inputs to HR communications performance tracking and summary insights for 2026 achievements reporting and 2027 planning.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities: The Fellow is expected to:

  • Produce communication assets (e.g. videos, presentations, infographics, animations, intranet pages, documents, publications) in a timely manner and to a professional standard.

  • Strictly adhere to WFP and HRM branding, tone-of-voice, and visual identity guidelines.

  • Demonstrate reliability in supporting multiple HR initiatives and campaigns concurrently.

  • Support structured administrative tracking of HR communication initiatives and HR’s digital presence.

  • Provide high-quality English writing, editing, and proofreading support for HR materials.

  • Contribute to the compilation and consolidation of HR initiatives for internal communication purposes.

  • Support basic analysis of available analytics data (e.g. Google Analytics, intranet metrics) as requested.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a Master's student or a graduate in Communications, Marketing, Knowledge Management or similar from a recognized university.

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset.

Required knowledge, skills and competencies:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Word.

  • Strong written communication skills in English, with attention to clarity, consistency, and audience focus.

  • Proven ability to produce visual and digital content within established brand guidelines.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content planning, particularly LinkedIn.

  • Working knowledge of basic performance and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) is an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of video editing and multimedia tools is desirable.

  • Highly organised, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working in a multicultural, international environment.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout the assignment, selected candidates have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn.  Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the selected candidate should have gained an understanding of internal employee communications and engagement, be familiarized with policies and frameworks guiding communications activities within a large humanitarian organization and gained valuable insight in opportunities within the humanitarian sector.

TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in an international organization. It offers valuable exposure to WFP’s operations and the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission.

The selected candidate will receive IT equipment and training material; however, financial compensation and medical coverage are not provided by WFP. Applicants may seek alternative funding opportunities, such as university grants or external scholarships, to support their assignment.
