Oversees and manages the work of the virology section of the laboratory in order to provide an efficient and timely diagnostic service.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all operating procedures are performed according to the Ministry of Health regulations, Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the Department Policies and SOPs.
• Continually monitors working practices to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of the virology section’s services as part of the departmental management team.
• Ensures that the Senior Management are aware of issues concerning service delivery including shortfall, service pressures and to propose remedial action.
• Ensures technical validation of highly complex results as specified by the laboratory protocols, ensuring accuracy and precision.
• Establishes and monitors internal quality control and external quality assurance programs.
• Provides scientific/technical expertise in assessing and initiating corrective action when quality control procedures indicate deviating performance of laboratory methods.
• Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of his/her specialty.
• Ensures evaluation of new methods and laboratory instruments is carried out appropriately and to implement changes to improve the department’s diagnostic service in response to findings.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

• PhD/Royal College/Fellowship/Membership in Virology or equivalent degree
• Minimum 5 years post Phd /Fellowship/Membership experience in relevant specialty

Job-Specific/Technical Skills

• Knowledge of Required Organizational practices/patient safety standards.
• Command over professional code of ethics, medical bylaws.
• Knowledge of evidence based Age specific/ Population specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital.
• Culturally competent (Kuwaiti patients’ culture and beliefs).
• AHA certified BLS/ACLS/PALS/ALSO/NRP as applicable per training policy.
