Category Manager - Gardening Department

On behalf of our client, who is a retail showroom specializing in home furnishings and accessories, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Category Manager to lead the Gardening Department who will be responsible for overseeing the entire gardening category, from product selection to pricing strategies, inventory management, and supplier relations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive category strategy aligned with company objectives and market trends.
• Curate an extensive portfolio of gardening products, including tools, equipment, plants, and accessories, ensuring a diverse and appealing assortment.
• Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape, integrating findings into category plans.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including design, manufacturing, and marketing teams, to bring innovative gardening solutions to market.
• Manage supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, terms, and pricing to optimize product assortment and profitability.
• Implement robust inventory management practices, including demand forecasting, replenishment strategies, and stock optimization.
• Monitor category performance metrics, such as sales, margin, and inventory turnover, taking proactive measures to address variances and maximize profitability.
• Lead cross-functional teams in product development initiatives, from concept ideation to commercialization, ensuring alignment with customer needs and company standards.
• Stay abreast of industry developments, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements affecting the gardening category, advising senior management on strategic implications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
• Proven experience in category management, product development, or related roles within the retail industry, preferably in home furnishings or gardening sectors.
• Strong knowledge of landscaping principles, plant cultivation techniques, and gardening practices, with a passion for outdoor living and sustainability.
• Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, able to translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strategic thinker with a results-oriented approach, capable of driving initiatives from conception to implementation.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and creativity, able to identify and capitalize on market opportunities while managing risks effectively.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills, able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
