Job Description - Logistics & Distribution Manager

Job Purpose

The Logistics and Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire logistics and distribution process, including clearance, export, warehousing, distribution (first and last mile), and sales support office. The primary objective of this role is to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective logistics operations that meet customer expectations and support business objectives. This includes strategic planning, coordination of resources, and continuous improvement of processes to optimize the supply chain and enhance service quality.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic

  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive logistics strategy aligned with business goals, integrating market trends and best practices.
  • Implement strategies to optimize the supply chain, reduce costs, improve service levels, and develop metrics and KPIs for performance measurement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, negotiate favourable terms with logistics service providers, and ensure alignment on logistics priorities.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate supply chain disruptions and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics functions, fostering a culture of innovation and proactive problem-solving.

Operational

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the distribution team to ensure smooth operations and attainment of performance objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including procurement, sales, and warehouse management, to synchronize activities and optimize distribution processes.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to distribution and logistics, such as on-time delivery rates and inventory accuracy, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulations and industry standards governing distribution operations, including transportation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization within the distribution function, streamline workflows, and implement improvements to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyse data and insights to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement, guiding strategic decision-making to enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Academic and professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Supply Chain Degree from a reputable university
  • Previous experience in Logistics & Distribution is preferred

Experience :

  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in Logistics & Distribution
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Proven track record of managing logistics & distribution operations effectively and achieving high scores on customer satisfaction
