Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Automation Project Engineer/ Manager to join SPX, Shopee's inhouse logistics team. As an Automation Project Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for project managing the installation of automated equipment and solutions to ensure our logistics operations are efficient, fast, and meet our standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful automation projects from inception to completion. Working with a team of engineers, data analysts, and operations specialists, you will play a pivotal role in optimising equipment performance across different sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop automation solutions in logistics settings, including designing, preparing, evaluating, and planning for tendered automation solutions
  • Project manage the installation process by evaluating vendors' site installation plans (both mechanical & electrical) and checklists, effectively monitoring project progress, quality, cost, and safety to meet specifications
  • Act as a point of escalation to coordinate and rectify safety and quality issues during installation
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth integration of automation solutions into existing workflows
  • Work with vendors to conduct Factory Acceptance Tests and Standard Acceptance Tests
  • Generate comprehensive management reports on automation project progress, performance and challenges
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and upgrade existing machinery to meet evolving business requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong technical background in automation systems, equipment, and machinery
  • Familiarity with the mechanical and electrical structures of conveyor systems and sorter technology like wheel sorters, crossbelts, and other sorting equipment used in the logistics industry.
  • Proven experience in managing the implementation of large-scale automation sorting machines in major logistics companies
  • Strong project management skills, able to break down complex projects into tasks and timelines and ensure adherence to them
  • Excellent vendor management skills, including the ability to:
  • Evaluate, select, and negotiate with vendors based on project requirements, quality standards, and cost-effectiveness
  • Monitor vendor performance, ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality standards, and budgetary constraints
  • Address any issues or conflicts that may arise, working collaboratively with vendors to find solutions
  • Conduct regular vendor performance reviews and provide feedback for improvement
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in automation technology, assessing vendors' capabilities and offerings
  • Team player and able to work collaboratively in a multinational team
