JOB TITLE: Analyst 1
JOB FAMILY: Laboratory
JOB PURPOSE:
The Laboratory Analyst II performs laboratory testing tasks required in analyzing material properties, their property actions, and reactions to a variety of situations or conditions. Possesses sound familiarity and ability to effectively utilize laboratory instruments within assigned area. Interprets scientific data, performs mathematical and scientific computations, and maintains laboratory records. Works within standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Performs analytical tests and records operating data from laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
2. Interprets scientific data and performs mathematical and/or scientific computations and prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
3. Works independently on certain activities or project-related tasks while being developed by senior lab analysts and management.
4. Reviews current instrument designs and ensures compliance with current Company quality standards.
5. Exercises procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in laboratory and safety manuals and company policies.
6. Audits bills of material for instruments for both quantity and quality of components used in the instrument and accurately records all elements of bill of material in company records.
7. Ensures timely testing prior to reporting results.
8. Tests applicable electrical or mechanical equipment functionality.
9. Writes or re-writes the operations manuals for instruments.
10. Responsible for installation and training of instruments.
11. Performs administrative and clerical duties related to project management.
12. Performs software management, sample management and technical report writing.
13. Communicates clearly to internal customers reporting the data and results.
14. Works on projects under close to moderate supervision while maintaining a team atmosphere with other technicians.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree in Mathematics (or other applicable technical field), or vocational school, or High / Secondary school diploma (or equivalent) with 2 years’ additional experience.
EXPERIENCE: 2 – 4 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
KNOWLEDGE:
Basic to intermediate knowledge of organizational laboratory principles, concepts, rules and techniques.
SKILLS (proficiency level generally aligns to knowledge section above):
• Verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to prepare and communicate safety reports and laboratory findings.
• Analytical capabilities including a full command of mathematics, weights, measures, compute rate, ratio, percent, and quantities (linear, volumetric, or weight) and to interpolate applicable data and tables. Able to draw and interpret applicable graphs and control charts to calculate and interpret laboratory findings and reports.
• Interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable working within defined parameters in close alignment with supervision.
