Penerangan Pekerjaan - Assistant Unit Manager, Operation Theatre

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established standards, work collaboratively with team members, and report any incidents or issues to relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.  

 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT 

1. Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital. 

2. Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care. 

3. Obtain unit report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse. 

4. Daily routine: 

  • Receive and register patients upon their arrival and assist patients accordingly 

  • Assist doctors in completing patient admission forms, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and providing essential assistance during examinations and medical procedures for optimal care and treatment outcomes. 

  • Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families. 

  • Prepares and tidies patients’ beds and linens as needed. 

  • Disinfects beds, furniture and equipment and organizes after utilizing them. 

  • Keeps the area, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy. 

  • Answer phone calls and relay messages. 

  • Attendants to patients call the bell promptly. 

  • Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests.  

  • Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results 

  • Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as  to maintain adequate stock levels for operations. 

  • Ensure oxygen tanks continuous supply for emergency needs. 

  • Guide patients and their families to the cashier for payment processing after receiving medical services. 

 

5. Assists the trained staff in various aspects: 

  • Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc. 

  • Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly. 

  • Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients’ charges accordingly. 

  • Serves meals, prepare drinks for patients if needed, and collects trays. 

  • Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient. 

  • Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics. 

  • Schedule and organisepatient appointments for basic medical treatments       such as dressing changes, nasogastric tube replacements, catheterchanges, andglucose tests. 

  • Arrange and keep patient records in an organizedand accessible manner. 

  • Transporting patients for handover and documents to the ward staff, as well as operating the theatre.  

  • Verifying and organizing on-call rosters for doctors, nurses, OTs, X-rays, laboratory personnel, and drivers, including ensuring the on-call board is up to date. 

  • Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses 

6. Attend meetings held by the service. 

 

HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT 

1. Proactive in our own learning and development, and to meet the minimum requirement of 20 hours of continuing education per year. 

2. Involve orienting new staff members to the ward routines 

3. Maintain a record of personal leave and training attendance. 

 

POLICIES AND PROCEDURE 

Adhere to the hospital's policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld. 

 

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT 

Assist the trained staff in managing the proper storage, condition, and availability of biomedical equipment in the unit, maintaining a sufficient supply of ward stock, and maintaining accurate records for equipment, medical supplies, and consumable item specimen collections. 

 

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES 

1. Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, BFHI and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures. 

2. Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures. 

 

JOB  REQUIREMENT 

 Education: 

  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 

  • Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority. 

 

Knowledge and Experiences: 

  • Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage 

 

Special skills  

  • Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia 

 

Personal attributes  

  • Have interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Caring, honest, and responsible worker.  

  • Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shifts and weekends, public holidays and any time called during an emergency.
