We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Associate, Business Development, Malaysia, Global Banking

Role Purpose

Supporting the Head of Business Development, MY in the development and execution of strategic initiatives within the Global Banking business with a view to driving improved business performance and enhanced operating effectiveness as well as improved client experience.

The Business Development team is responsible for working with the GB head and individual teams within GB to implement a wide range of initiatives which are central to the effective operation of the business. Key responsibilities span business strategy, planning and cost management, focusing on the effectiveness of business processes which impact banker productivity and overall client experience as well as driving the people and culture agenda.

The Business Development team is responsible for shaping and driving the implementation of strategy and has ongoing decision-making responsibilities in relation to a range of areas including hiring and banking investment spend.

The Business Development team also sits as bridging point into GB for many of the functions supporting the business and so involves working closely with a wide range of stakeholder groups to ensure that the support provided into GB is aligned to the business strategy, that risks are effectively managed and issues quickly resolved.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Business Development to engage senior management in leading the development and implementation of business development strategies and initiatives focused on driving growth and business performance as well as enhancing GB product and coverage capabilities.
  • Supporting the coordination of collaboration initiatives with other businesses and product areas such as MSS, CMB, WPB and the transactional banking products.
  • Working across GB stakeholders as well as with functional partners to enhance the end to end client experience ensuring we are able to respond to banker and client feedback.
  • Identifying and supporting initiatives focused on improving banker effectiveness and overall business productivity through the effective use of business analytics, automation and information tools as well as process simplification.
  • Work closely across multiple stakeholder groups including but not limited to WSB, Relationship Managers, Middle Office, Client Documentation Group and Compliance to ensure effective deployment of group initiatives and an effective level of support to the front line bankers.
  • Supporting GB-led change focused on enhancing GB products and business capabilities as well as ensuring wider change programs such as those addressing regulatory requirements have the necessary business input throughout the process.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of the GB people agenda across the region/country as well as initiatives focused on enhancing banking conduct and promoting the highest cultural standards to support the Group’s strategy for sustainable growth and streamlining of business processes and procedures.
  • Work with relevant teams to ensure all internal controls and compliance procedures covering all business activities of Global Banking are supportive for growth, customer oriented, and in line with Group / local regulatory standards.
Requirements

The job holder will ideally have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Proven relationship management skills in dealing with key decision makers, with the confidence to interact with executive & senior management
  • Drive and commitment; ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and proven ability in handling competing priorities
  • Keen problem solving abilities
  • A self-starter who is not afraid to speak up and face a challenge; also open to listen to guidance and learn as they go
  • Strong understand of the Global Banking strategy, commercially minded and customer focused
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning and organisation skills
  • An inquisitive mind who is not afraid to challenge the status quo, continuously look at ways to improve processes
  • Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer innovative and practical solutions, and support driving through their execution in a collective environment and in a timely manner
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of local operating markets and their corresponding span(s) of control within assigned country
  • Experience of driving strategic change in a matrix environment
  • Extensive product knowledge of Global Banking and the wider organization is preferred
  • Independent decision making, utilising knowledge and information to pro-actively solve complex issues and implement effective solutions in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Acting with sensitivity and developing trust to engender a true sense of urgency, pace, community and collaboration across the GB Business, WSB organisation and HOST / Global Functions communities.
