Job Purpose *

The Application Engineering Lead – Digital Wealth is responsible for leading solutioning, development, and delivery of assigned applications / platforms, while also managing engineering teams to ensure high-quality build, deployment, and stable run operations.

The role acts as the primary application owner and technical lead for designated systems, ensuring that solutions are implemented in line with business requirements, technology standards, and cloud-native engineering practices.

The incumbent is accountable for ensuring systems are designed effectively, delivered with quality, and operated reliably in production, supporting critical digital wealth journeys.

Key Responsibilities  *

1.    Application Ownership & Engineering Leadership

•    Own end-to-end accountability for assigned applications / systems

•    Act as the Application Lead / Technical Lead ensuring technical requirements align with system capabilities and standards 

•    Lead and manage development teams across multiple delivery streams

•    Ensure clear ownership for both delivery (build) and production stability (run)

2.    Solutioning & Technical Design

•    Work with Business, Product, and Architecture teams to:

o    Translate requirements into technical solutions

o    Define system-level design and implementation approach

•    Ensure solutions are:

o    Scalable and performant

o    Secure and compliant

o    Integrated effectively with upstream/downstream systems

•    Provide hands-on guidance during design and development phases

3.    Engineering Development & Delivery

•    Lead development activities across:

o    Backend and frontend engineering

o    Integration and API services

•    Ensure adherence to:

o    SDLC and development standards

o    Agile delivery practices

•    Manage and resolve technical issues during delivery lifecycle

•    Ensure timely and quality delivery of enhancements and new capabilities

4.    Build, Deployment & Release Management

•    Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes

•    Ensure:

o    Smooth deployment of applications into production

o    Minimal disruption during releases

•    Coordinate with DevOps and platform teams for environment readiness

5.    Production Support & Stability (Run)

•    Accountable for system performance and stability in production

•    Ensure:

o    Monitoring and alerting mechanisms are in place

o    Effective incident management and resolution

•    Lead root cause analysis and remediation for production issues

•    Drive improvements to reduce recurrence of issues

6.    DevSecOps & Engineering Practices

•    Drive adoption of:

o    Automated testing and deployment

o    Secure coding practices

•    Ensure compliance with:

o    Security standards

o    Audit and regulatory requirements

•    Improve engineering practices to enhance quality and efficiency

7.    Stakeholder & Delivery Coordination

•    Act as key technical interface between:

o    Business and Product teams

o    Architecture and Engineering teams

•    Provide visibility on:

o    Delivery progress

o    Technical risks and issues

•    Align stakeholders on solution decisions and trade-offs

8.    Team Leadership & Capability Development

•    Manage and mentor development teams

•    Ensure team capability across:

o    Modern engineering practices

o    System knowledge and ownership

•    Foster culture of:

o    Accountability for systems

o    Ownership of production issues

o    Continuous improvement

9.    Continuous Improvement & Optimisation

•    Identify opportunities to:

o    Improve system performance

o    Reduce technical debt

o    Optimise application design and cost

•    Promote reuse of existing components and services

Job Specification *

Qualifications 

(Basic Degree/Diploma etc)

    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Professional Qualification and/or Regulatory, Licensing requirements     Cloud certification (AWS, Azure, GCP) preferred

Relevant Work Experience     •    12–15 years in software engineering and development  

•    Minimum 5–8 years in technical leadership roles

•    Strong experience in application development, system integration, and delivery in banking or financial services
