Director, Legal Services

Role Overview:

The Director will lead, supervise, and manage the overall administration of the Legal Services Division, overseeing the Legal Advisory, Prosecution, and Secretarial Sections. The role is pivotal in safeguarding the organization's legal interests, managing litigation, and driving legislative drafting and amendments.

Job Responsibilities:

Division Leadership & Administration:

• Manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Legal Advisory, Prosecution and Secretarial sections.

Advisory & Compliance:

• Provide expert legal advice on the interpretation and implementation of governing laws and subsidiary legislation.
• Deliver internal advisory services to all departments and divisions to ensure the organization's legal interests are strictly protected.
• Address legal matters raised by external parties, including stakeholders, licensees, government agencies, the media, and the general public.

Drafting, Negotiation & Legislation:

• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and core legal documents.

• Spearhead the drafting of subsidiary legislation and relevant 

  amendments.
• Engage directly with relevant agencies, stakeholders, and the Attorney General's Chambers to oversee legislative matters through to gazettement.

Litigation Management:

• Oversee and manage all litigation matters involving the organization.

• Respond to letters of demand from parties intending to commence 

  legal proceedings.
• Issue notices of demand to relevant parties regarding legal action taken by the organization.

Representation & Research:

• Attend necessary meeting and conduct continuous legal research to stay updated on the latest developments impacting the organization.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons.) with a Professional Legal Practice Qualification
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in the legal field working as a legal advisor or solicitor, with at least 5 years of experience heading a relevant department.
• Possess strong analytical skills and sound legal judgment to support organizational needs.
• Capable of solving problems and making decisions efficiently and effectively.
