Location: Setia Alam, Malaysia

School Overview: We are recruiting on behalf of an esteemed international school in Setia Alam, Malaysia. Opened in January 2018, the school is purpose-built and generously resourced, nestled amidst expansive green spaces, towering trees, ponds, parks, and pedestrian paths, yet conveniently located just 30 minutes from central Kuala Lumpur. Despite initial challenges in enrollment growth, particularly due to the pandemic, the school has seen rapid growth over the past 18 months, expanding from 250 to 400 students.

Faculty and Curriculum: The school boasts a diverse teaching faculty of 55 members, with 60% being international teachers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, and China. It is the only school outside Australia that partners with Peninsula Grammar in Victoria to deliver the Victorian Curriculum (Foundation to Year 10) and the Victoria Certificate of Education (Year 11 and 12). This partnership offers teachers productive and collaborative relationships with colleagues in Melbourne, annual student exchanges, and a Year 11 Study Tour to the Peninsula Grammar HeadStart programme. The school serves students from ages three to nineteen, fostering a strong sense of community among parents, children, and staff. The culture of positive psychology and respect permeates the school, celebrating the diversity of its community within a supportive and family-friendly atmosphere.

Position Overview: The Year 9 EAL Teacher will support students whose first language is not English, helping them achieve proficiency in English and succeed academically. The teacher will design and implement engaging lessons that cater to the diverse needs of EAL students, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive in our multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective English language lessons to Year 9 students with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that integrates language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and subject-specific vocabulary.
  • Assess students language abilities and tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback and reporting to parents and school administration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the integration of EAL students into mainstream classes.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the school community.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognised teaching qualification PGCE/State License/B.Ed
  • Bachelors Degree minimum
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching English as an additional language, preferably in an international school setting.
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and best practices in EAL instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
