Fashion Designer ZALIA (Modest Wear)

Job Overview

ZALORA is seeking a highly creative and experienced Fashion Designer to be the driving force behind our premium Modest Wear private label, ZALIA. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing and developing collections that resonate with the brand's core identity—elegant, sophisticated, and modern—while maintaining commercial viability for the career-driven, urban woman aged 25-50.

Key Job Scope & Responsibilities

1. Design & Conceptualization:

• Lead the design and development of the ZALIA and ZALIA BASICS collections, including seasonal lines (e.g., ZALORAYA) and year-round assortments.
• Conduct in-depth trend research, paying close attention to global fashion, modest wear market trends, and competitive brands 
• Develop original concepts, mood boards, and detailed technical packs (tech packs) from initial sketch to final sample approval.

2. Product Development & Sourcing:

• Collaborate closely with Product Developers and external vendors on all stages of the product lifecycle.
• Oversee the sampling process, including fitting, providing detailed proto and Pre-Production Sample (PPS) comments, and ensuring all samples meet quality and design standards.
• Specify and select fabrics, materials, trimmings, and embellishments, ensuring quality is appropriate for ZALIA's mid-to-high demographic target market.

3. Commercial & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Ensure collection designs align with the brand's commercial strategy, price points (RRP range: RM199–RM359), and desired tailored fitting/comfortability.
• Work with Marketing and Site Merchandising teams to ensure design vision is accurately translated into compelling marketing campaigns, editorials, and static page content (e.g., ZALIA’s Raya destination page).
• Handle ad-hoc design-related tasks and priorities quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.

4. Digital Content & Mentorship:

• Oversee and mentor the Social Media Intern to create engaging content that drives traffic and brand awareness for ZALIA on relevant platforms.
• Ensure all digital content is aesthetically aligned with the ZALIA brand and effectively showcases the latest collections.

Essential Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience as a Fashion Designer, ideally with a background in designing Woven, Knits, and specializing in Modest Wear or Contemporary Women's Apparel.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) for technical sketching and design. Knowledge of garment construction, pattern drafting, and fitting principles.
• Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of fabric properties, quality standards, and sourcing processes. Ability to manage the end-to-end product development cycle.
• Qualities:
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating an elegant, sophisticated aesthetic.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail (e.g., managing a checklist for fast-paced timing).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage relationships with external partners.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the latest social media content trends (e.g., TikTok, Instagram Reels) and how to leverage them for a premium fashion brand.
  • Proven ability to thrive and manage shifting priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
