Job Summary:

The Finance Manager in the construction field is responsible for managing the financial health of the organization. This includes overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic guidance to support business growth and project success. The role demands strong financial acumen, familiarity with construction industry specifics, and the ability to communicate effectively with project managers and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Conduct financial analysis to assess company performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

Project Cost Management:

  • Oversee the financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project costing and profitability analysis.
  • Monitor project cash flows and ensure adequate liquidity for project needs.

Accounting and Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Present financial reports to senior management, stakeholders, and board members.
  • Develop financial models and forecasts to support business planning.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with construction projects.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Manage insurance and bonding requirements for construction projects.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
  • Promote collaboration between finance and other departments to achieve organizational goals.

Vendor and Contract Management:

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers.
  • Ensure timely payments and manage vendor relationships to optimize financial terms.

Requirements:

Educational Background:

  • Must be a member of MIA (Malaysian Institute of Accountants)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of at least 5 years of progressive experience in Construction finance or accounting roles.
  • Knowledge about BURSA requirements (this will be an advantage and will be prioritized).

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Leadership abilities and experience in team management and development.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to grow with constructive criticism.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards in financial management.

Work Environment:

  • Standard working hours apply, with additional hours required during peak project periods or for specific financial reporting deadlines.
