ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Commercial, Legal, and Compliance Counsel, you’ll work closely with teams like sales, partnerships, analytics and operations to help solve thorny cross-border legal matters and enable the business to scale and grow. You will be drafting a wide variety of commercial arrangements with partners and partnership agreements. You will also be providing sound legal advice with respect to commercial terms, business operations, and product development.

You will need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally. We want a Legal Counsel who is excited about technology and insurance, thrives in complex and shifting regulatory environments, and who is ready to roll up your sleeves up and dig into tough legal matters to reach a creative solution.

We're looking for an attorney who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities, including compliance support. You must have the ability to operate independently and work proactively with various teams across the organisation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (labour law, partnerships, international ventures etc.)
• Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel), creating relations of trust
• Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights
• Define and implement internal governance policies to ensure the company's processes and practices are in full compliance with relevant laws and regulations, support in compliance matters in the Group of Companies
• Resolve legacy and liability issues with legal implications efficiently
  
  

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:

• At least 3 years of experience in a major international/Malaysian law firm.
• Possesses an LLB degree or above in a common law jurisdiction.
• Qualified to practice law in Malaysia. Qualifications or experience practising in other common law jurisdictions is a plus.
• Knowledge of the Financial Services Act 2013 is advantageous.
• Prior relevant experience in insurance/insurtech is a bonus.
• Excellent English drafting skills and strong negotiation skills.
• Mature, pragmatic, and self-motivated.
• Hardworking with a “can do” attitude.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• High integrity to ensure that your work sets us up for success as a team.
