Manager, Underwriting & Billing - Leading Industry Pay

Role Summary:

1. Responsible for managing, planning and organizing the entire processes and operations related to Underwriting cost-effectively and efficiently according to established service level standards, procedure manuals and guidelines of the department and the company within the budget allocated. 
2. Primarily responsible for ensuring that risk is accepted based on sound principles and prudence of Underwriting. All accepted is placed using the combination of net retention, treaty limits and facultative facilities available to safeguard the company's financial interest. 

Main Responsibilities: 

1. Implement the framework, policies and strategies to achieve the objectives and business plan of the Underwriting unit and to ensure improvement in quality and standard of customer satisfaction.
2. Ensure compliance with the approved Standard Operating Procedures and Service Level Standards of the Underwriting unit.
3. Accept standard and sub-standard life assurance risks subject to the approval limits and based on the underwriting guidelines manuals. For the cases exceeding the treaty acceptance limit, refer to the re-insurer for their acceptance whilst ensuring the risk accepted is entirely placed using the facilities provided and the company's net retention is not exceeded.
4. Evaluate and place significant or sub-standard risk on facultative re-insurers but always keeping the interest of the company and treaty re-insurers foremost.
5. Ensure that all reports, submissions, and requirements are correctly and timely made to BNM, LIAM, NIAM or any other related body, whether it is on a routine or ad-hoc basis.
6. Constantly review and upgrade the department's process to minimize and simplify the process needed for prudent underwriting without compromising information or compliance-related matters.
7. Identify potential and existing areas of improvement in business processes and underwriting. Then, make suitable recommendations quarterly to superiors to update the procedure manuals and implement the approved recommendations.
8. Recommend suitable training programs for the sub-ordinate staff to enhance the knowledge and skills of the team, including improving the underwriters' medical and financial underwriting skills following a new development in the industry.
9. Undertake any other task assigned by the Superior.

Job Requirements: 

• Basic Degree in Biology, Bioscience, Mathematic or similar related field or AMII / ACII / AAII.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience at management level in Insurance Industry and at least 5 years’ experience in medical and financial underwriting.
• Good knowledge in medical underwriting, financial underwriting and product knowledge.
• Good written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical and underwriting skills and ability to draft policy and rider documents.
