1. To attend to all patients who come to A&E services for treatment
2. To treat patients as you think fit and if you think the patient requires specialist opinion, to refer the patient to the relevant specialist, either there and then or the next day.
To consult a specialist immediately if you have any doubt about treating the patient. Prior to referring the patient to the specialist concerned, you are to seek the patient’s approval and enquire if he is willing to pay for specialist consultation. If agreeable, to inform the specialist of the case.
3. To perform relevant procedures as required eg., to set up IV drips, catheterization and take blood for investigations as necessary.
4. Should you consider the patient requires immediate admission, you are to do so after advising the patient. You are then to inform the relevant specialist about the case admitted.
5. In an emergency, to render appropriate emergency to the patient. Inform the specialist and record all important points of discussion a final decision.
6. To escort patient who requires medical attendant during transportation by ambulances services.
B) WARDS
1. Upon reporting for duty, you are to do rounds at each ward and ICU/CCU to familiarize yourself with the cases, particularly the seriously ill patients.
2. To consult with the relevant specialist for more information and advice when necessary.
3. To attend to patients in the wards or perform relevant procedures as requested by the specialist or staff nurse in charge.
C) GENERAL
1. To ensure that all procedures done are appropriately charged in the relevant charge slips.
2. To reply referral letters and prepare medical reports (as requested) if patient has been attended to only by the Medical Officer.
3. To clerk each case in the patient’s note as completely as possible.
4. To attend to blood donation campaigns and any other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
The Medical Officer is responsible for the total quality management and continuous improvement in line with the Hospital Policies and Procedures as well as legislative requirements.
Education
Must possess at least a Medical Degree or equivalent from recognized institutions
Full registration with Malaysian Medical Council
Current Annual Practicing Certificate
Knowledge and Experiences
Completed at least 4 years of service with the Government
Special skills required
Knowledge in healthcare system management, medical quality assurance, quality improvement and risk management
Personal attributes
Good leadership, good interpersonal and communication skills, team work, good time management and willing to work extra miles for company’s achievement. Knowledgeable in quality improvement activities, OSH and infection control standards. Evidence of current and ongoing education (desirable).
