Midwife

1. Obtains report from the Team she is relieving and record sufficient information to implement appropriate follow-up action as required.
2. Answers patients call bells to determined patients' needs.
3. Assists with bathing, dressing and undressing patients. Attends to patient’s personal hygiene and pressure area care to increase their comfort and well-being.
4. Makes patient’s beds and change bed linen.
5. Assists with feeding patients during meal times and in between meal nourishment including fluids when required.
6. Delivers messages, equipment or specimens between divisions as required.
7. Assists patients with toiletry needs, give bedpan or assistance to bathroom as indicated by patient’s condition.
8. Assists professional nursing team in preparing patients for specific examinations and investigations.
9. Assists with administration of oral medication according to policy established and pertaining to each area of work assignment.
10. Takes and record temperatures, pulse, respiration rates and blood pressure and report all unusual conditions or patient reactions to the Obstetrician / Doctor and the nurse in charge.
11. Assists in collection of specimens for Laboratory investigation e.g. urine, sputum and stool.
12. Carries out vulva swabbing.
13. Prepares patients for surgical procedures such as shaving, give suppositories and enema.
14. Administers oxygen to patients.
15. Carries out patient admission and discharge process.
16. Attends to ambulance service as required.
17. Monitors fetal heart and contraction of labour patient and documents progress in nursing clinical notes / partogram.
18. Able to fix cardiotocography leads to patient to monitor fetal heart rate and uterine contractions.
19. Able to read cardiotocography and recognize changes in patient / fetal condition.
20. Performs abdominal palpation on the patient to determine the gestation and presentation of the fetus.
21. Performs Vaginal Examination on the patient to determine the progress of labour.
22. Assists Obstetrician with the delivery of baby.
23. Performs spontaneous vaginal deliveries in the absence of the Obstetrician.
24. Allowed to give intramuscular injection of syntometrine to labour patient.
25. Check placenta and membranes for completion and abnormalities.
26. Receives Caesarean section baby in OT.
27. Able to perform heel prick to the baby.

Education / Professional Qualification

• The Job
• Division II Midwifery Certificate
• Possess Annual Practicing License
• License to practice as a midwife as recognized by Malaysian Nursing Board.
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
• Proficient in delivery of baby.
