Principal Frontend Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced engineering leader to drive the vision, architecture, and technical excellence of our frontend platform (mobile + web). You will lead the engineering direction for mobile / web applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and developer productivity across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Technical Leadership
  • Define and evolve frontend architecture for mobile and web applications.
  • Establish best practices for performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Guide the adoption of modern frameworks, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Platform Engineering
  • Build and maintain shared libraries, design systems, and developer toolkits.
  • Lead frontend platform roadmap to improve reusability and speed of delivery.
  • Ensure seamless integration with backend and cloud infrastructure.
• Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead a team of senior engineers, setting high standards for code quality.
  • Mentor engineers on technical growth and architectural decision-making.
  • Collaborate with product and design to align platform capabilities with business needs.
• Strategic Impact
  • Drive technical initiatives that improve scalability and reduce tech debt.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to keep the platform modern and competitive.
  • Represent frontend engineering in cross-functional leadership discussions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 in frontend leadership.
• Proven expertise modern mobile and web architecture.
• Strong understanding of mobile performance, app security, and CI/CD (e.g., Expo EAS).
• Experience building component libraries, design systems, and developer tools.
• Excellent communication skills with a proven track record of influencing technical direction.
• Ability to balance hands-on coding with high-level architectural oversight.

Nice to Have

• Experience with web performance optimisations and SSR/SSG frameworks (Next.js).
• Familiarity with native iOS/Android integrations within React Native.
• Prior leadership of platform or infrastructure teams in a high-scale environment.
