Principal GBS Cost Engineering | Kuala Lumpur or Manila

Provides technical expertise in the provision of project services (e.g. scope, estimated/actual cost, budgets, changes and forecasting), subject matter expert sound technical advice, coaching and executes tasks related to the development of original budgets, maintenance of the control budget, tracking commitments, estimation of accruals, monitoring the impact of changes and identification of trends and corrective/ preventative actions to influence on-budget delivery of the project’s objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

• Accountable for providing sound technical advice and coaching to the Portfolio Managers and Project Leads and managing diverse stakeholder expectations.


• Collaborates with Project Functions to ensure PC&A inputs, requirements and deliverables are included and adhered to in all contracts.


• Onboards, mentors and coaches as a subject matter expert.


• System Super-user/ Administrator and also trainer.


• Defines project objectives/schedules, identifies critical activities, monitors the project plan/schedule and drives continuous improvement initiatives across projects at BHP. 


• Undertakes analysis of project data to identify trends, develops and communicates insights that guide data driven action and decision making, in support of PC&A Lead.


• Sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence based decision making


• Develops safe project delivery and contractor performance strategies to maximise portfolio value and enhance improvement and innovation.


• Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.


• Escalates trends, risk and opportunities at a project level or portfolio level.


• Leads improvement activities within PC&A and engages with relevant touch points to ensure successful delivery.


• Participates and leads Assurance activities as a PC&A subject matter expert in a chosen discipline.


• Shares information and learnings across the PC&A team.


• Provides Functional support to PC&A.

• Extensive years of experience in similar capacity


• Experience/comfort with project systems equivalent to Ecosys, Stature, Aconex


• Relevant tertiary qualification in a business/trade-related discipline or demonstrated equivalent business experience


• Advanced Excel Skills


• Strong problem-solving skills including organising and analyzing multiple data sources


• Strong communication skills (written and verbal), collaboration and interpersonal skills and able to work autonomously


• Previous commercial, project management or quantity surveying experience on capital projects in the mining, resources or oil and gas industry would be well regarded
