Senior Developer Java, Banking Microservices

Role Overview

Design and build core banking microservices, taking ownership of complex components end to end and providing technical guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain production-grade Java microservices for core banking functions


• Contribute to architecture and API design decisions alongside the Lead Developer


• Implement event-driven integrations between services using messaging/streaming platforms


• Review code and provide technical guidance to Full Stack and Junior developers


• Champion quality, performance and security throughout the development lifecycle

Required Experience & Skills

• Java 21 (LTS) with working knowledge of Java 25/26 language and platform features


• Spring Boot for building and deploying production microservices


• Microservices architecture — service decomposition, API design, containerisation


• Event-driven architecture — messaging/streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ or equivalent)


• Exposure to AI-assisted development tooling is strongly preferred


• Solid experience designing and building RESTful/event-driven APIs in a microservices environment


• Comfortable working independently on complex features with minimal supervision

Other Requirements

• Based in Malaysia, eligible to work in Kuala Lumpur without sponsorship


• Bilingual in English and Mandarin (written and spoken)


• Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience with microservices architecture


• Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience with event-driven architecture


• Strong understanding of secure coding and data-handling practices appropriate to a regulated banking environment
