Senior Mechanical Engineer (Equipment & Automation) I

Ambu A/S is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Equipment & Automation) for our NPI department to be based in Ambu Global Hub, in Penang, Malaysia.

Key responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and implement new manufacturing equipment, testing equipment and automation systems with robotics/vision integration to enhance efficiency and precision.


2. Review detailed CAD models, engineering drawings and BOMs from vendors on equipment and automation systems and challenge the designers and/or provide alternative solutions for the models.


3. Provide suitable mechanical components (pneumatic valves, actuators, motors, sensors, etc.) to be used in equipment and automation systems.


4. Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for new equipment to ensure they meet specifications, performance standards, and regulations.


5. Collaborate with software, electrical, and controls engineers to integrate mechanical components into full automation systems.


6. Optimize equipment performance and efficiency.


7. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for equipment-related issues.


8. Provide training and support for equipment operation and maintenance.

Suggested candidate profile

Skills and experiences can be earned in many different ways, and we understand that the best fit for the role cannot be prescribed on paper. You are however likely to succeed in this position if you:

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.


2. Experience in equipment development and automation within a manufacturing or R&D environment.


3. Strong understanding of mechanical design, robotics and automation systems.


4. Proficiency in CAD software.


5. Knowledge of simulation software for machine design, which allows for virtual testing and optimization of equipment before physical prototypes are built, is a plus.


6. Proficiency in quality systems and standards, along with knowledge of FDA regulations and compliance requirements for medical devices.


7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
