General Statement of Responsibilities

Role Overview

• Expected to coach swimming as directed by the Head of Swimming, and to work closely with existing staff to ensure that the needs of all the students are met. Included within this remit will be to coach in both the curriculum and co-curriculum (Teaching and Coaching of swimming for a range from nursery to school leavers)
• Liaise with the Head of Swimming to coordinate the swimming programme and liaise with staff contributing towards the programme
• Assist with the implementation of a coaching programme aimed at the talented swimmers within the school, including Learn to Swim and training at the weekends (possible evenings)
• Assist with delivering intra and inter school competitive opportunities for students
• Develop excellent teaching and coaching resources
• Attend all swimming galas/activities
• Assist the Head of Swimming in the selection of all teams
• Ensure that normal operating procedures are followed and that any Health and Safety related issues are reported to the appropriate department
• Deliver swimming lessons and/or organise swimming activities during School Camps (possible holiday work)
   

PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR THE ROLE OF SWIMMING COACH

Criteria 

Qualifications

Essential

• Minimum level 2 Swimming coach award (ASA/British Swimming or equivalent)

Desirable

• Up-to-date lifeguard qualification
• Other professional qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Experience coaching swimming squads and Learn-to-Swim level swimmers
• Ability to plan training seasons for varied ability of swimmers across sessions, cycles and the school year
• Has some knowledge of Meet Manager and Team Manager - swimming software
• Knowledge of health and safety for sport activities
• Excellent understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and practices

Desirable

• Experience in more than one school
• Strength and conditioning knowledge/qualification
• Proficient ICT user
• Awareness of innovative thinking and practice in education
• Experience of developing the practice of others
