Objectives of the Position

• Contribute to the continuous development of BASFs´ Standard for Trade Compliance by understanding the Regulatory requirement across Trade Compliance disciplines and contextualizing for business context.


• Provide Global oversight and act as liaison with Regional Trade Compliance leads regarding National Trade Compliance Officer activities in each jurisdiction. 

Main Tasks

Continuously develop BASF’s´ Standard for Trade Compliance across disciplines and contextualizing for different Business scenarios. 

• Collaborate with Trade Compliance Global Topic Owners e.g. Responsible Supply Chain, Embargos, Dual-use and Defense Military Compliance, Chemicals Trade Control to co-develop BASF’s approach to new or changing regulation.


• Critically evaluate compliance concepts developed by Topic Owners and assess implementation effectiveness for all BASF legal entities in the light of dynamic trade restrictions and varied business models.


• Support Global Topic Owners and Trade Compliance service unit leaders in designing practical implementation of effective checks and controls in business processes


• Develop & enhance risk assessment framework, template and model(s) that can be used in different cases, in alignment with Corporate Centre

Business Model / Business Partner Consultancy

• Assess impact for EU sanctions packages from Business Partner perspective


• Support business units or service units with deep-dive evaluations on business partners upon request


• Liaison for ad hoc requests related to suspicious business partners, e.g., from Corporate Trade Compliance, Treasury, Corporate Legal or other functions with regard to Anti-Money-Laundering, German Supply Chain Act, Modern Slavery etc.

Global oversight of National Trade Compliance activities and strengthen BASF’s line of defense in all jurisdictions

• Act as focal point to understand National Trade Compliance activities, compliance status, local Authority requirements in all jurisdictions & countries


• Assist Regional Trade Compliance leads in collecting and consolidating Executive-level reports on Trade Compliance landscape and activities in each jurisdiction, ensuring timeliness and quality of content


• Identify areas for improvement in Regulatory monitoring and compliance, and participate in solution design


• Identify areas for improvement in processes, including Communication & Awareness, and participate in solution design


• Develop a repository of Regulations including update frequency, access rights, viewer rights, relevant content and lifecycle management (eg Archiving)


• Enhance the Audit management and Incident management platform

Requirements

Education

• University graduate in business law, legal studies, international trade, Business/ Economics with specialization in Trade


• Compliance/Regulatory certification is a plus

Working Experience

• Min 8 years of relevant professional experience in the field of foreign trade or compliance within banking sector, Manufacturing chemicals/ pharmaceutical/ life science industry, commodities trading, or international trading company


• Experience in both service industry AND goods-based industry preferred


• Experience in managing risks in a multi-jurisdictional business environment

Technical & Professional Knowledge

• Demonstrable analytical and conceptual thinking


• Excellent deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills


• Entrepreneurial drive to take ownership until resolution


• Able to influence without direct authority


• Demonstrated track record of multi-country, cross-functional coordination and/or project management


• Familiarity with BASF business processes would be a plus
