Volunteers Interpreter / Community Health Worker

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the conduct of clinics and mobile clinics in different capacities: interpretation, crowd control, proper registration, patient flow, referrals and community support.
2. Conducts accurate and complete interviews and histories of beneficiaries, compile them properly and submit to Liaison Officer .
3. Closely follows up all referred beneficiaries for further support, guidance and on time medical appointments as per doctor’s request and orders.
4. Provides health education and promotions to all referred beneficiaries and their care takers (cough etiquette, ANC/PNC, FP, breast feeding, proper hygiene and hand washing) in every opportunity.
5. Helps with the preparation of IEC materials (e.g. leaflets and hygiene kits) as needed.
6. Identify schools/learning centres to provide health education sessions. Distribute health education materials and hygiene kits during the sessions if required;
7. Facilitates surveillance and monitoring of newly arrived refugees (and/or other vulnerable population). 
8. Community mobilization and map out beneficiaries’ communities in Penang State. Maintain good rapport with local community leaders including heads of schools, etc.
9. Ensures respectful and emphatic behaviour towards POCs.
10. Maintains confidentiality of all information gathered without fail.
11. Informs patient/caretakers about medical condition and involve them in actively participate in his/her care.
12. Functions as translator between patients, caretakers and expats in relation to patient referrals and emergencies as required. Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating.
13. Translate discussions/meetings as requested. Translate documents from mission language into local or vice versa upon request.
14. Participate in training provided to improve basic medical knowledge to facilitate translation and improve understanding of medical conditions of referred PoCs.
15. Actively participate in team meeting to improve the project activities.
16. In turn, take responsibility of patient’s hotline and respond promptly to inquiries 
17. Upholds MSF core values and principles.
18. Participate in any other project-related activities as deemed necessary for the mission.

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND CONDITIONS:

• Literacy essential. 
• Female candidates are encouraged to apply
• Essential, English, and at least one or more of the following languages: Rohingya, Burmese, Bengali. Preferable also Bahasa Malaysia
• Competencies: results, teamwork and cooperation, flexibility, commitment, service and stress management

VOLUNTEERING LOCATION:    Butterworth, Penang

VOLUNTEERING HOURS :        (9.00AM-6.00PM) 5 days a week
