Job Description: Construction Materials Buyer We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Materials Buyer with expertise in construction material purchasing to join our team. As a Construction Materials Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring construction materials, with a strong focus on construction material, including but not limited to lumber, light fixtures, plumbing, etcetera. Responsibilities:
- Lumber Sourcing: Identify and source high-quality lumber from reliable suppliers, ensuring materials meet required specifications and standards.
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with lumber suppliers, negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions to optimize purchasing agreements.
- Market Research: Stay up-to-date with market trends, industry innovations, and pricing fluctuations within the lumber industry. Provide timely insights and recommendations to the management team.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, forecast future material requirements, and coordinate timely deliveries to support ongoing construction projects.
- Budget Management: Collaborate with project managers and estimators to ensure the procurement process adheres to budgetary constraints, maintaining cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
- Quality Control: Perform regular quality checks on delivered materials to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Generate accurate reports, maintain purchase records, and update the database with relevant information regarding pricing, lead times, and supplier performance.
- Supplier Evaluation: Conduct periodic evaluations of suppliers' performance, assessing their ability to meet quantity, quality, and delivery requirements.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Construction Materials Buyer, preferably with specific expertise in purchasing lumber.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of construction materials, species, and related specifications.
- Excellent negotiation and sourcing skills, with a track record of building and managing supplier relationships.
- Familiarity with construction industry regulations and standards.
- Strong analytical skills to review market trends, pricing, and supplier performance.
- Proficiency in utilizing purchase order management systems and other relevant software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to occasionally visit suppliers and construction sites, as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
