Job purpose:

The R&D Appetizers Food Scientist is responsible for delivering NPD (New Product development) projects within quality, timing & cost constraints in close relationship with marketing (Foodservice, Retail & QSR), commercial, procurement 3rd part, operational & technical departments.

He/She is behaving as a real technical lead able to involve all the team members of the project (internal or external) in order to achieve a common goal.

He/She coordinates & investigates all solutions & opportunities to deliver new product proposals or to improve existing products. He/She is leading technical aspects of the projects in close connection with the other McCain departments.…)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Development :

• Generate project briefs and timelines in collaboration with project team and commercial lead, ensuring adherence to project management principles.
• Developing products through the process in line with project management principles, following a brief to time, cost and quality expectations, providing full understanding of the process conditions agreed and ingredients used, ensuring all documentation is available from a project management and food safety perspective. Ensuring systems such as SAP, PLM and IMS are up to date.
• Present recommendations to the business on product feasibilities engaging cross functional support, highlighting risks and challenges with mitigating solutions.
• Develop implementation plans with commercial lead and manufacturing, ensuring smooth handover.
• Collaborate with commercial team to understand commercial aspects of projects and potential protectable IP

1. Outcome:

• Product developed collaboratively with commercial and ISC teams to a realistic visible specification ensuring key stakeholders are kept up to date throughout.

1. Communication:

• Maintain a good relationship, communicating internally with project team functions, any other associated departments and third party suppliers or manufacturers
• Internal R&D communication within CEU and broader regions
• Present products confidently and professionally with factual technical knowledge
• Regularly update the Senior Scientist and stakeholders as to status of projects and any changes to milestones
• Update at key business meetings such as ISG in a professional manner
• Contribute to all global and regional meetings bringing suggestions and updates helping to broaden the knowledge of the team overall

• Proactively maintain technical knowledge in light of market advances both internally(globally) and externally sharing relevant information with the team.
• Leverage technical knowledge to provide input to the business strategy
• Proactive engagement in improving performance and team involvement
• Continuous improvement of work practices suggesting idea’s to the process and team

About you:

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field preferred.
• 2yrs + of relevant and proven industry experience
• Needs to have hands on experience in a development environment and worked with manufacturing processes - Ideally experience in Cheese products.
• Passion for food innovation and a creative mindset.
• Experience working in a fast paced commercially driven Product Development environment (both frozen and chilled in branded or own label), working on all aspects in the development process including concept development, process development, factory/line trials, specifications and first production runs.
• Strong Project Management skills
• Fluency in Dutch and English is mandatory; knowledge of German is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software (nice to have Power BI).
• Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Mobility: willingness to travel between different sites in Rilland, Kruiningen, Lewedorp, and Villeneuve d’Ascq.
• Ability to work in an international environment with an international sales team
