Job Description - Application Technician

We are seeking a skilled Application Technician to join our client’s team in Eindhoven to support the Ophthalmic Precision Optics (OPO) team in the development and evaluation of innovative optical technologies. Working across multiple R&D projects, the role is responsible for planning, executing and documenting experimental work, developing concept prototypes, and operating advanced prototyping equipment to support the delivery of new products and technologies.


The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned work packages, driving experiments from concept through execution and reporting results while collaborating closely with engineers and scientists across the team.


This is a 6 -month position with potential for extension.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development of new ophthalmic precision optics concepts through hands -on experimental work.
  • Plan, execute and document experiments, ensuring work packages are delivered to agreed timelines.
  • Drive experimental activities from end to end, including preparation, execution, analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in technical discussions, contributing ideas and recommendations to support project objectives.
  • Operate and maintain 3D printing equipment and associated prototyping tools.
  • Produce and assemble concept prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, injection moulding and hand tools.
  • Support the optimisation of 3D printing processes to meet optical design requirements.
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to evaluate prototype performance and implement design improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental methods, results and observations.
  • Keep informed of emerging technologies and market trends relevant to ophthalmic precision optics and prototype development.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted safely and in accordance with company procedures.


Requirements


Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, or another relevant engineering or scientific discipline
  • Experience in a laboratory, engineering or R&D environment.
  • Practical experience with experimental work and prototype development.
  • Experience operating 3D printers or other rapid prototyping equipment.
  • Hands -on mechanical assembly and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and accurately document experimental results.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Excellent problem -solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred:
  • Experience with optics, ophthalmics, photonics or precision engineering.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining and injection moulding processes.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects.
