Purpose of the Role
The Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Advisor provides technical leadership and expertise to TdH NL's Humanitarian Action programme, specifically in child protection and child exploitation. This role supports country offices and partners, ensuring compliance with the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPMS), safeguarding policies, and other relevant standards. The CPiE adviser will enhance TdH NL's capacity to protect children in humanitarian contexts by developing and implementing technical tools, supporting capacity-building initiatives, and promoting systemic change in child protection.
The CPiE Adviser directly contributes to TdH NL’s mission—protecting children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and empowering children to make their voices count. Additionally, this role involves research, strategic advocacy, safeguarding, and technical support to ensure high-quality, evidence-based humanitarian responses.
Position in the organisation
The CPiE Advisor is part of the Global Humanitarian Action Team and reports directly to the Global Head of Programme - Humanitarian Action. This team includes the Head of Programme - Humanitarian Action, the CPiE Adviser, and the Programme Manager. Together, they focus on advancing TdH NL’s humanitarian action programme to support child protection in humanitarian settings worldwide.
Result areas and core activities:
Your role as CPiE adviser at TdH NL's head office will be to support the organization's humanitarian action programme. To do this, you will report directly to the Head of Humanitarian Action and perform the following responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Develop and update technical tools, guidelines, and standards for child protection in humanitarian settings.
- Provide technical expertise to project design and implementation, ensuring adherence to global standards (CPMS, Sphere) and TdH NL safeguarding protocols.
- Conduct field visits to support country offices in assessing program quality and to provide hands-on technical guidance.
- Ensure compliance with child protection policies, safeguarding guidelines, and other relevant frameworks.
- Collaborate with the Resource Mobilization team to support proposal development and funding opportunities ensuring technical alignment with donor expectations and field realities.
Capacity Building
- Identify capacity-building needs in consultation with country teams and partners.
- Organize and facilitate technical training workshops, webinars, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Develop resources and materials to support learning and capacity strengthening in child protection.
Partnerships
- Support TdH NL's partnership efforts, ensuring partners adhere to best practices and standards in child protection.
- Foster relationships with local and international child protection networks and stakeholders.
- Identify, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships in alignment with the TdH NL partnership approach, including collaborations with donors, INGOs, and national organizations.
Research and Knowledge Management
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities to assess the effectiveness of child protection interventions.
- Support research in collaboration with the Research, Expertise, and Influencing (REI) unit to refine child protection practices.
- Support documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, best practices, and case studies.
Safeguarding
- Conduct safeguarding assessments for partner organizations involved in TdH NL projects.
- Ensure safeguarding plans are implemented and followed, providing ongoing support and guidance.
- Address gaps in safeguarding practices and identify solutions through training and mentorship.
Advocacy and Representation (Internal and External)
- Represent TdH NL in relevant technical working groups, alliances, and networks focused on child protection in emergencies.
- Collaborate with the Head of Programme - Humanitarian Action to support humanitarian advocacy and communication strategies.
- Develop advocacy materials (e.g., briefing notes, position papers) that highlight TdH NL’s work and impact in humanitarian contexts.
- Advocate on behalf of TdH NL in key forums, ensuring that the organization’s voice is heard on issues related to child protection in humanitarian action.
- Support internal representation by facilitating communication between TdH NL’s field teams and headquarters, ensuring alignment of objectives and effective sharing of information across departments.
- Contribute to the development of advocacy materials (e.g., briefing notes, position papers, reports) that highlight TdH NL’s work, impact, and positions on humanitarian issues.
Innovation and Strategy
- Contribute to TdH NL’s strategic planning by identifying opportunities for innovative approaches to child protection.
- Pilot new methodologies/models and strategies in child protection, scaling successful models.
- Provide strategic advice on the integration of evidence-based practices in humanitarian contexts.
Knowledge and experience
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Child Protection, International Development, Social Work, Child Rights, or a related field. They should have a strong technical background in Child Protection In Emergencies, with at least 7 years of experience in complex contexts and providing technical support to partners. More specifically, you should possess:
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, including CHS, SPHERE, and CPiE practices, and their application.
- Experience managing CPiE programmes, including strategy development, quality improvement, and capacity strengthening.
- Technical knowledge in MHPSS for children in emergencies, ensuring holistic child protection interventions.
- Commitment to localization, community empowerment, and AAP, with a proven track record of promoting local leadership, strengthening capacities, and implementing accountability mechanisms.
- Proven skills in safeguarding and PSEA, ensuring ethical practices.
- Strong partnership management skills, with the ability to maintain effective relationships with donors, INGOs, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data management and MEAL to assess programme impact.
- Advocacy and policy influence experience, engaging stakeholders to strengthen child protection systems.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse contexts.
- A commitment to systemic change through innovative approaches to humanitarian action.
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities to motivate and support staff and partners.
- In-depth understanding of conflict sensitivity and 'Do No Harm', ensuring context-aware interventions.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%, providing on-site support, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Experience in evidence generation and research to improve child protection.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Innovative and adaptive mindset, with the ability to navigate challenges in dynamic environments.

- A 1-year contract.
- The salary scale for this job is scale 10 and depending on experience and seniority the salary ranges between €3737,77 and €4821,39 per month based on a full time (36 hrs) contract
- We offer a 36 hour contract which in our organisation equals a full time workweek. The positive of this is that one can work 4 x 9 and have one day per week off while still having a full time contract. You may spread the hours over the week matching your preference, in agreement with your manager;
- We work hybrid, so 50% office and 50% from home. Very flexible and with a positive effect on your work life balance;

- 25 days of paid leave per year on a full time employment basis, if part time, days pro rata;
