Job Description - Compensation and Benefits Administrator

Compensation & Benefits Administrator - Confidential

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Compensation & Benefits Administrator to join our People Operations team. In this position, you will serve as the go-to resource for all things payroll and benefits across our organization — ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, benefits programs run smoothly, and workforce data remains reliable. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role in a dynamic, shift-driven production environment where your expertise will directly impact the employee experience.

What You’ll Do

Own the Payroll Process

  • Execute full-cycle payroll processing on weekly and bi-weekly schedules for hourly, salaried, and executive employees using HRIS platforms (e.g., UKG Pro or comparable systems)

  • Monitor compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations, FLSA requirements, and tax obligations; perform audits, corrections, and reconciliations as needed

  • Manage off-cycle runs, bonus payments, and special pay situations

  • Oversee time and attendance platforms — including system logic, timecard accuracy, and cutoff schedules

  • Calculate and apply premium adjustments, retroactive changes, and enrollment-related deductions or refunds

  • Process and communicate wage garnishments and court-ordered withholdings to affected employees

  • Design internal checkpoints to achieve and sustain a 100% accuracy standard

Administer Benefits Programs

  • Own end-to-end administration of the company’s full benefits portfolio: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA/HSA, 401(k), FMLA, STD, and LTD

  • Plan and lead annual open enrollment — from strategy and communications through final execution

  • Act as the primary liaison with benefits brokers and insurance carriers to ensure efficient plan management

  • Oversee day-to-day enrollment changes, qualifying life events, and system updates

  • Evaluate the competitiveness of current offerings and bring forward recommendations to strengthen the benefits package

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state regulations governing health, welfare, and retirement plans, including data privacy requirements

  • Coordinate life insurance claims with HR, employee families, and carriers

  • Manage administrative tasks such as HSA employer contribution processing, benefits summary updates, and routine audits

Serve as the Internal Subject Matter Expert

  • Partner with HR Business Partners to address team member questions and support benefit utilization

  • Act as the escalation point for complex or sensitive pay and benefits issues

  • Train supervisors and employees on relevant tools, policies, and processes

  • Maintain and deliver onboarding materials related to compensation and benefits

  • Produce recurring reporting on labor costs, 401(k) funding, overtime, headcount, and benefits utilization/claims

  • Identify and implement process improvements across payroll, benefits, and internal controls

  • Document and maintain thorough standard operating procedures for all relevant workflows

What You Bring

Experience

  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits administration

  • Hands-on experience with a major HRIS/payroll platform (UKG Pro or equivalent strongly preferred)

  • Deep working knowledge of benefits plan types including health & welfare, retirement, and leave programs

Skills & Attributes

  • Unwavering commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement mindset

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, shift-based environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex topics for a general audience

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Office suite

  • Experience managing vendor relationships with professionalism and tact

  • Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable
