Job Description - Data Engineer

The Job

Do you enjoy turning complex data structures into scalable, trusted data products that help the business make better decisions? Then this role could be for you.
As a Data Engineer at STICHD, you will work on the foundation of our Data & Analytics landscape. You will help build the data platform that powers analytical data products, operational systems, reporting, self-service BI, and future machine learning and data science use cases.
You will be part of the Data & Analytics division within the Information Management & Technology department. Our ambition is to develop a future-proof, robust, and scalable data platform using Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and Microsoft Power BI. This platform enables the organization to work in a more data-driven way by making data accessible, reliable, and ready for business use.

As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimize end-to-end data solutions for ingesting, processing, validating, and delivering data. You will work with structured and unstructured data from multiple source systems and transform it into trusted data products within our central Data Foundation.
These data products are the cornerstones for our analytical solutions and operational processes. They support dashboards, reporting, self-service analytics, automation, and future AI-driven use cases across the entire STICHD organization.

You will work in a team of Data- and Analytics Engineers, Analytics Consultants, Data Analysts and Integration Specialists. Together, you will create business value by delivering reliable data, actionable insights, and scalable solutions.

Your Mission

Design and implement end-to-end data solutions within our cloud data platform; 

Ingest, transform, validate, and publish data from multiple internal and external sources; 

Build scalable and reliable data pipelines for both batch and streaming use cases; 

Create trusted data products that can be reused across analytics, reporting, and operational systems; 

Apply data quality, historization, lineage, monitoring, and automation principles; 

Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into sustainable data solutions.

Your Talent

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field and you have at least 3 years of experience in Data Engineering or a similar role;

  • You are curious, pragmatic, and quality-driven. You enjoy solving complex data challenges and understand that good data engineering is not just about moving data, but about creating trusted, scalable, and maintainable solutions;

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks; 

  • Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, and Spark SQL; 

  • Good understanding of SQL and data modelling concepts; 

  • Solid experience with designing and building robust data pipelines and data products; 

  • Experience with Git, GitHub Enterprise, CI/CD, pull requests, and code reviews; 

  • Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tooling; 

  • Experience with metadata-driven development, reusable engineering patterns, and scalable data architecture; 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical teams and business stakeholders. 

This role is based in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. Working remotely from other countries is not possible. 

To apply for this role, you must already have the legal right to work in the Netherlands. We will not apply for work or residence permits.

  • Our salaries are based on 38 hours per week, but full-time work is 40 hours per week. Instead, you choose between a lot of holidays; 40 per year ór choose for a 40-hour salary per month with still 28 holidays. You can switch every six months;
