The Team
You’ll join the Center of Excellence (CoE) Data Management Risk within the Non‑Financial Risk (NFR) domain. Our team helps ING identify, assess, and mitigate data‑related risks across areas such as Data governance, Data quality, Reporting, Ethics and End‑user Computing (EUC). Guiding policy setting and RAS metrics for data-related risks, supporting ING’s global risk management objectives.
Within the CoE Data Management Risk, the Data Risk Management Expert contributes expert knowledge in data risk in its broadest perspective. The role supports the identification and remediation of structural shortcomings in ING’s data risk practices, ensures policy alignment with regulations, and advises on risk mitigation strategies. The position serves the global organization, providing guidance to senior management and first line of defense (1LoD) teams.
This role reports hierarchically to Team Lead of Data Management & Emerging Technology located in Amsterdam.
Roles and responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute your expertise across a broad range of data‑risk activities. Your work will help ING strengthen its risk management, improve governance, and enhance global data‑risk practices.
The NFR Expert in the CoE Data Management Risk will be responsible for:
Contributing to identifying, measuring, and mitigating risks related to data
Contribute to the development of data management (related) policies, ensuring compliance with external regulations.
Monitoring and challenging the implementation of the DGMR policy, related control standards, controls, remediation plans, waivers, deviations and risk acceptances.
Performing or contributing to independent risk assessments and control effectiveness reviews.
Challenging the definition, refining, cascading and periodic reporting of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
Instructing and supporting NFR teams in data risk related deep dives, SLM, oversight, and reporting.
Advising senior management on Data Management related risks and mitigation strategies.
Cooperate with hubs, ODCR and other stakeholders to optimize global ING data risk management.
Staying up to date with data risk related and regulatory developments as well as industry best practices. Horizon scanning & communicating on emerging threats and trends.
Periodic meetings with NFR Virtual Team members, preparing Virtual Team meetings.
Preparing Data Risk Council meetings/agenda.
(Lead) Risk activities on Data related programmes/projects.
(Quarterly) Reporting.

We are looking for the following education, knowledge and experience
Master's Degree or Equivalent in a relevant (audit, risk, data) field.
Over 10 years experience providing expert competence
Experience of general supervision of more junior colleagues.
General Knowledge:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and delivery skills.
Sound stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Knowledge of ToD/ToE, SLM, FLM and Key control design.
Knowledge of internal policy development (including PLM/ICBP) and related processes (e.g. Waivers & Deviations).
Knowledge of iRisk, issue raising, - challenging, - analysis and related processes.
Ability to ‘plan ahead’ e.g. perform QBR and Strategic planning activities, target setting.
Strong communication skills, presentation abilities, and coordination capabilities - including quarterly reporting.
Good judgment, decision-making, and cultural sensitivity.
Ability to work across geographies.
Specific Knowledge:
Solid knowledge of data management policy, - frameworks (DAMA, DM BOK), methods, and data protection.
Proven experience with Data Analytics, EUC and/or Reporting is an advantage.
Knowledge of the Data related Control Standards in ING.
Strong expertise in data management technologies, platforms, and tools (e.g. Collibra) as well as experience with horizon scanning.
Solid understanding of relevant regulations (e.g. BCBS239, Data Act, AI Act).
