Job Description - Distribution Manager - Benelux

Role Purpose

To coordinate and drive Starr’s relationships with broking partners in Benelux, aligned to the UK & EMEA Distribution function. Responsible for the strategy definition, strategy execution, and business performance of brokers and Agencies in country. Assist lines of business with the identification of opportunity and execution of strategic plans. Help develop new relationships with broking partners in lines of business with limited exposure and analyse current broking trends to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of communication. Build customer loyalty aligned with Starr value proposition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic partnership between Starr and it’s broking partners across the region;
  • Contribute to the achievement of the operating plan through effective services and development of the existing client base and growth of new business;
  • Act as a primary channel for strategic communication between Starr and broking house leadership;
  • Assist country manager with in-country distribution strategies;
  • Track, develop and maintain strong working relationships with Carrier Management Teams and Broking groups to leverage and support Starr position for national growth with each Broker;
  • Formalize and implement annual broker plans focusing on;
  • Oversee and monitor MI related to broker engagement and utilisation;
  • Develop regular reporting of broker performance for leadership and any relevant committees;
  • Assist with the planning and execution of broker engagement events and activities;
  • Work with underwriting units to review data and identify potential opportunities or target specific accounts, including creation of business plans to target growth with specific brokers;
  • Work with underwriting units to support the new-business targeting and "at risk" retention. Act as the first escalation for conflict resolutions, ensuring visibility of panels / facilities, and supporting the governance of broker administrative management;
  • Oversee the review of existing portfolios and recommend strategies for increased growth;
  • Present market intelligence regarding sales and major account movements;
  • Support the launch of new products and services;
  • Work with the wider UK&EMEA Distribution team aligning in-country distribution strategies with broader relationships for specified broking partners;
  • Meet specific annual objectives, as agreed upon, for YOY growth, retention, and SQB results with specific brokers, and in specific targeted growth / focus areas.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • 15 + years insurance experience;
  • 5+ years experience in an insurance distribution, underwriting or broking role;
  • Established relationships with key personnel at major brokers in the Netherlands;
  • Strong, in-depth knowledge of insurance across classes of business;
  • Experience of Business Planning and Reporting;
  • Understanding of key trading issues between market and brokers, including where appropriate complications around common wordings and clauses;
  • Language skills : Fluent Dutch and English, French and German desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt style to suit the audience.
