University of Vermont Health Network, in Burlington, VT, is seeking a dynamic, senior-level hospital and health system operating leader to serve as its next Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO).

As one of three executive vice presidents for the Network, the EVP/COO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of UVMHN, Sunil “Sunny” Eappen, MD, MBA, and will be charged with continuing to transition the organization’s operations into a more fully-integrated network structure. The EVP/COO, as a key member of the Network team, will have a great impact in further accelerating the health system to more of an integrated operating organization, the goals for which are enhancing coordination of access to care, innovating the care delivery model, and controlling costs. The EVP will be responsible for unifying and coordinating efforts across UVMHN’s hospitals to implement shared administrative services and advance the horizontal integration of hospital operations. With all Network hospital presidents reporting to the EVP/COO, this role will support their respective goals and needs while coordinating their efforts in alignment with Network goals.

In addition to ensuring greater optimization of current network-wide initiatives such as Epic and Workday, broader areas of focus for the position include the identification and achievement of annual clinical quality; operational and financial goals for all hospitals within UVMHN; optimization of the shared administrative services; and integration of hospital operations to embrace quality of service, access, and efficiency. The EVP/COO will champion strategies that further differentiate UVMHN as a progressive employer of choice, supporting initiatives that enhance employee engagement, well-being, and loyalty. In close partnership with the EVP/Chief Financial Officer, EVP/Chief Clinical Officer, and others, will support Network strategic planning efforts designed to improve quality and patient safety, expand access to care, reduce costs, grow and diversify sources of revenue, and lead the organization’s shift from volume- to value-based care models.
