Job Description - Geotechnical Engineer (Accepting Netherlands Based Candidates Only)

Job description

Do you thrive in an international scale-up environment and enjoy solving complex technical challenges? Are you curious and eager to work on innovative technology that contributes to a more sustainable offshore wind industry? If so, you could be our next Geotechnical Engineer!

GBM Works’ Story
While working as an intern for an offshore contractor building offshore wind farms, a young engineer discovered that installation methods were far from sustainable. Despite the goal of clean energy, marine life continued to suffer due to noisy installation techniques. Determined to change this, he founded GBM Works ten years ago with the ambition to fundamentally improve offshore foundation installation.

Today, we are developing our patented Vibrojet® technology for the next generation of XXL monopiles in offshore wind energy. Our silent installation method addresses major industry challenges, including harmful noise to marine life, potential delays, fatigue damage to piles and the scaling limitations of traditional piling methods.

What Would You Do?

As a Geotechnical Engineer at GBM Works, you will play an active role in the development of our future products and services. You will join our product development team, which is currently focused on advancing our Vibrojet® technology for offshore pile installation.

Your work will contribute directly to the development and validation of geotechnical models used to design and operate the Vibrojet® and upcoming prototypes for large scale monopiles. These models - including jet-aided installation, drivability and bearing capacity, are validated through laboratory testing and field trials and applied in commercial projects.

You will be part of the geotechnical team, working closely with experienced engineers while having the opportunity to contribute your own ideas, creativity, and analytical skills.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Contributing to the geotechnical development of our Vibrojet® technology

  • Analysing soil driving behaviour through laboratory and field test evaluation

  • Planning for soil investigations and test instrumentation

  • Interpreting geotechnical data and test results

  • Supporting the validation of theoretical models through testing

  • Participating in research to improve modelling approaches and define operational parameters

About You

  • You hold a master's degree in a relevant field, with a specialisation in soil mechanics

  • You have strong written and verbal English communication skills; you can confidently and eloquently present your findings in front of external stakeholders

  • You are intrinsically motivated by research, development and geotechnical engineering

  • Experience in geotechnical engineering is a plus

  • Proficiency in Python is an advantage

  • You are creative and proactive, able to generate ideas and translate them into practical tests.

  • You enjoy working in a fast-growing, innovative environment

Workplace

Our office is located at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA) in Amsterdam North, just a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. ETCA offers excellent facilities including onsite parking, a gym, a restaurant and a high-quality coffee bar.

What Do We Offer?

We believe great work happens when people have ownership, trust and room to grow. At GBM Works, you’ll get:

  • A role with real impact - you will shape how the company works and grows

  • End-to-end ownership of geotechnical research, with freedom to improve and innovate

  • A front-row seat in a fast-growing scale-up within the offshore wind and energy transition sector

  • Collaboration with a highly motivated, international team working on meaningful technology

  • Hybrid working, offering flexibility and autonomy

  • A competitive, experience-based salary

  • Laptop and mobile phone

  • 25 paid holiday days

  • NS Business Card for commuting

  • Travel reimbursement for car and bicycle commuting, plus a working-from-home allowance

  • A personal development plan that supports the development of your engineering expertise, research capabilities and soft skills

  • A modern workplace at ETCA Amsterdam, surrounded by innovation and sustainability initiatives

You’ll join a team of 22 professionals with diverse backgrounds, united by curiosity, ambition and a shared drive to make a real difference.
