Interim Senior Legal Counsel (French Speaking)

We are looking for a French Legal Counsel for an interim assignment! Are you ready to hit the ground running in a can-do team with big, bold plans for the future? Do you work as a lawyer or legal counsel and ready for a new challenge? Do you speak French and do you have experience with French law? Then we must be looking for you! 

Assignment details: Starting as soon as possible, for an estimated period of 3 months. 

This Is What Your Role Looks Like 

Your main focus will be on consumer and marketing law and contracting matters for the French market. You will support both local and international stakeholders on day-to-day legal topics linked to marketing campaigns, customer journeys, consumer and supplier contracts, and regulatory compliance. 

You will work closely with our marketing teams at the international HQ and in France, local managers, the French headquarters, and certain corporate departments of the international headquarter. Besides your work on the French market, you will also contribute to international projects. 

Our legal department currently consists of 20 legal counsels under the supervision of the Executive Director Legal Risk and Compliance. You will report to the Team Manager Legal France.  

At our legal department, we support the highly centralized international headquarter and the operations of all our markets: the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Spain. We have an entrepreneurial, dynamic and informal business culture with proud and highly motivated colleagues. 

Your Responsibilities 

Consumer & Marketing 

• Provide practical legal support and advice to our marketing and consumer departments, both at international and local level 

• Review and ensure compliance of consumer contractual documentation and our customer journey with business standards and consumer laws 

• Support marketing campaigns, promotions, partnerships and commercial communications 

• Manage member disputes and coordinate with external counsel where applicable 

• Handle requests and investigations from French authorities and administrations (Signal Conso, DGCCRF, SDJES, etc.) 

• Deliver trainings and promote legal awareness to the business 

Contracting 

• Draft, review and negotiate consumer and supplier contracts 

• Ensure compliance of contractual documentation with applicable laws and internal standards 

• Support and advise local and international teams on contract-related matters 

Other Responsibilities 

You may also be involved in other operational and legal matters for the French market, including: 

• Pre-litigation support and coordination with external counsel; assessing legal risks and providing strategic recommendations 

• Lease agreement reviews, renewals and negotiations, acting primarily as tenant 

• Advising property management, chief of operations and operational teams on real estate matters 

• Maintaining legal databases and reporting tools 

Who Are You? 

We seek a dynamic and solution-oriented legal professional who can combine legal expertise with a pragmatic, business-friendly approach and who is ready to make an impact from day one. 

Qualifications & Skills 

• Law degree from a French university 

• Fluent French (native level) and fluent English proficiency 

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a B2C environment, gained in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel 

• Significant experience in marketing and consumer law 

• Analytical mindset, negotiation skills, and meticulous attention to detail 

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

• Proactive, adaptable, and motivated by challenges
