Job Description - International Corporate Development Director Finance · Arnhem · Fully Remote

The Director of International Corporate Development is primarily tasked with overseeing Medline’s international mergers and acquisitions activities and initiatives, with a particular focus on Europe but also extending to regions beyond the United States of America (USA). The responsibilities associated with this role include the identification, analysis, and execution of opportunities for international growth through strategic acquisitions and partnerships. Furthermore, this position involves deploying corporate development skills and tools to drive these initiatives.

This role will forge partnerships with our European and other international business units, as well as collaborate closely with our global product divisions. This collaboration is pivotal for the identification, cultivation, structuring, and execution of mergers and acquisitions (M&As), and other strategic transactions. This role is also tasked with maintaining key relationships within Medline, including executive officers, corporate functional leadership, and Medline's private equity ownership. It also entails engaging with external private equity and investment banking partners, as well as building and nurturing relationships with leadership and stakeholders of potential target companies.

The role is based in the Netherlands, and report directly to the Vice President, Corporate Development (based in the USA) with a strong dotted-line reporting relationship to Medline’s Group President (also based in the Netherlands).

How can you help us?

  • Lead discussions, presentations, and evaluations related to international corporate development projects, including effective coordination with regional and divisional leadership, and key Medline functions.
  • Act as a thought partner and advisor to international executives in their decision to support deals.
  • Drive strategic assessments and maintain a pipeline of international opportunities, varying in complexity and size.
  • Conduct in-depth market research and sophisticated product and channel assessments to identify potential areas for strategic growth and investment.
  • Coordinate due diligence activities with respect to identified strategic target assets.
  • Cultivate relationships with target pipeline company stakeholders to ascertain when a company is likely to transact and ensure Medline is the preferred partner.
  • Coordinate investment banking processes, starting from the development of investment thesis, progressing through confidentiality agreements, target management presentations, and bid development.
  • Actively lead discussions with investment banks, private equity sponsors, lawyers, and other sources of deal opportunities to increase and improve Medline’s international pipeline.
  • Represent Medline as a company open to international M&A, including representing Medline at industry and professional events.
  • Take ownership and ensure accountability for operating and transaction models, working closely with business partners and finance teams. Emphasise synergy identification and validate deal thesis assumptions.
  • Provide support to Medline's international teams in developing and executing local assessment and cultivation strategies.

Are you our match?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master's degree in Business Administration or a similar field is highly preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and closing acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships in Europe. This includes expertise in target identification, deal strategy, financial modeling, due diligence, negotiations, and integration planning
  • Strong background in strategic thinking and development is essential
  • Extensive experience in transaction structuring and negotiation is required
  • Prior experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development is necessary, and established relationships with private equity and investment banking partners are highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence effectively, adapting communication styles to different audiences and anticipating the impact of words and actions
  • Proven negotiator and strategic thinker with strong foundation in transaction tactics
  • Ability to preempt and rapidly resolve conflicts and incorporate perspectives of others to achieve alignment
  • Focus on strategic action, supporting strategy development with market and data insights
  • Ability to travel up to 30 – 40 percent for business purposes (both domestic and international)
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
  • Self-motivated with a passion for cross-functional collaboration and a strong aptitude for managing complexity and thriving in ambiguous situations
