Junior Network Engineer

As Junior Network engineer you are, together with your team, responsible for the development of KPN’s current network towards the future state-of-the-art network. You and your team are responsible for the products within the Fixed Networks IP Transport with a primary focus on keeping the networks in top condition. In other words; operational management.

You are someone who:

• You have a basic to good understanding of fixed core networks and are motivated to learn how to operate and improve network functions.
• You have initial exposure or strong interest in Internet Peering concepts and are eager to grow your skills in this area.
• You have an interest in automation and are keen to learn how to automate network processes, especially in core and peering environments.
• You are able to analyze incidents and changes, and with guidance, contribute to solving more complex network challenges.

We are looking for a motivated junior Network Engineer who is keen to grow in a DevOps-oriented environment. You are curious, proactive, and not afraid to take initiative. You enjoy learning from others and continuously developing your technical and personal skills.

You have:

• HBO working and thinking level (or are close to completing it).
• Initial experience (internship, traineeship, or junior role) in network engineering, design, testing, or operations.
• Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals such as routing & switching, TCP/IP, and protocols like BGP, OSPF, DHCP, IPv6, or EVPN (hands-on experience is a plus).
• Interest in working with vendors such as Nokia, Cisco, or Juniper.
• Basic Python knowledge or strong interest in programming and automation.
• Familiarity or interest in automation tools such as Ansible, Docker, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Awareness of network security principles.
• Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Interest in carrier-grade networks, telecom environments, and service provider technologies.
• Interest in the internet ecosystem, including peering, transit providers, and internet exchanges.
• Interest in traffic engineering, MPLS concepts, and BGP-based routing.
• An Agile mindset, with interest in Scrum, Kanban, DevOps, or similar ways of working.

• Een bruto maandsalaris van minimaal € 4.055- en maximaal € 5.984 ,- op basis van 40 uur per week afhankelijk van je kennis, ervaring én de groei die je nog kunt maken binnen de rol. • Uitstekende pensioenvoorwaarden: een totale inleg van 23% van je pensioengevende salaris waarvan KPN 16% inlegt en jij 7%
