THE POSITION

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented junior scientist (research associate) to join our research team in Zwolle. In this role, you will support ongoing projects by running in vitro assays, maintaining cell cultures, and contributing to the evaluation of natural compounds. You will work closely with our research team to ensure reliable and high-quality laboratory results. This role is ideal for a motivated researcher who enjoys both practical lab work and scientific exploration, and who can take responsibility for lab maintenance, inventory, and routine experimental workflows in a flexible environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform in vitro assays (e.g. cytotoxicity, viability, oxidative stress, immunoassays)
• Assist in screening of test material in cell-based models
• Support the setup and execution of experiments with natural ingredients (e.g. phytogenics)
• Accurately record, analyze, and report experimental data and support scientific presentations
• Cell culture maintenance as routine work
• Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
• Contribute to lab organization, including cleaning, stock management, ordering supplies, and maintaining safety standards
• Contribute to scientific meetings and creating innovative hypothesis and experimental design
• Collaborate closely with research team members on project-specific research and contribute to troubleshooting/optimization.

Qualifications

• Completed MBO/HBO degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, or related field
• Proficiency in aseptic techniques, cell line maintenance, cryopreservation, and routine assays
• Experience with cell culture techniques is strongly preferred (1-2 years)
• Practical experience with laboratory assays (e.g. ELISA, microscopy, qPCR) is an advantage
• Familiarity with data analysis
• Strong organizational skills and attentions to detail in line with ability to manage lab stocks and consumables
• Proactive mindset, good communication, and ability to work independently as well as in a team
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
