Job Description - Maintenance Lead Central Europe

Americold is a global provider of temperature -controlled
infrastructure. We partner with farmers and food producers to ensure their
perishable and frozen products reach food suppliers, restaurants, and local
grocery stores without spoilage. Our customers, including some of the most
respected brands in the food industry, rely on our expertise and commitment to
safety to deliver on their own commitments.
 
Role
Summary
Americold is seeking a proactive
and technically skilled Engineering Manager for our Central Cluster
(Netherlands, Poland & Austria) to support and complement the current
regional engineering leadership. This management role acts as a strategic backup,
ensuring continuity and operational excellence across the Central Cluster while
the Site Engineering Managers oversee day -to -day activity. The role is
responsible for maintenance operations, contractor coordination, compliance,
and continuous improvement across multiple cold storage facilities, ensuring a
measured, controlled, and collaborative approach.

Key responsibilities
Operational backup
& continuity

  • Serve as the
    engineering lead for the Central sites during the absence or limited
    availability of the primary manager.

  • Ensure seamless
    execution of maintenance and engineering activities across all sites.

Maintenance & facility oversight
  • Ensure daily
    maintenance operations - including refrigeration, material handling equipment,
    and utilities - are completed in line with legal requirements and planned
    maintenance needs.

  • Monitor preventive
    maintenance programs and ensure timely corrective actions, maintaining
    consistency across all activities.

Contractor & vendor
management

  • Ensure contractors are
    competent and authorized to complete assigned work.

  • Coordinate external
    contractors for specialized repairs, installations, and upgrades related to
    major maintenance activities and capital projects.

  • Ensure compliance with
    safety, quality, and performance standards.

Compliance & safety
  • Promote a culture of
    safety and continuous improvement across the sites and within all teams.

  • Support compliance
    with internal and external audits (IFS/GRC, etc.).

Strategic investment
& energy management

  • Support the
    development of investment plans and energy management strategies to contribute
    to the ROI pipeline.

Budgeting & planning
  • Manage annual
    maintenance budgets and capital expenditure plans to ensure sites meet targets
    and have the tools necessary to do so.

  • Monitor expenditures
    and contribute to cost‑saving initiatives at site level and through global
    programs.

People & resource planning
  • Plan resources for
    open positions and team structure.

  • Provide technical
    leadership to teams across the cluster and identify training opportunities for
    all maintenance personnel.

Innovation & project support
  • Stay updated on
    emerging technologies and recommend suitable improvements.

  • Support engineering
    projects including automation, energy efficiency, and sustainability
    initiatives.

  • Work closely with the
    Director of Operations for the Cluster to ensure clear communication channels.

  • Provide the support
    required for the successful delivery of Project Orion.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s
    degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial preferred).

  • 5+ years of
    experience in maintenance or engineering management, ideally within cold
    storage or logistics.

  • Strong
    understanding of refrigeration systems, warehouse automation, and contractor
    management.

  • Fluent in
    English, both written and spoken.

  • Ideally based in the Netherlands, preferably within reasonable proximity to one of our Central Europe sites (e.g., Schiphol, Barneveld, Urk), with willingness to travel within the cluster as needed - and to
    support potential projects outside the Central Cluster.
