The Private Sector Business Unit

The Private Sector business unit is responsible for financing the international activities of private companies through loans, guarantees, and (quasi) equity solutions. We finance the full business spectrum—from startups to multinationals—with a strategic focus on five key sectors:

• Agrofood

• Energy & Climate

• Healthcare

• Sustainable Manufacturing

• Infrastructure & Water

The position

We are seeking a seasoned private equity professional to build, lead, and inspire a high-performing equity team, while managing Invest International’s equity investment portfolio.

As a key member of the management team, you will report directly to the Director of the Private Sector. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in driving our equity strategy and expanding our institutional footprint as we scale toward a €175 million portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Build, coach, and inspire a highly motivated team of investment professionals, fostering a culture of continuous development.

• Strategic Execution: Translate corporate strategy into concrete deliverables; create and implement a robust origination and execution strategy for the equity team.

• Organizational Alignment: Implement and champion the core values, compliance standards, and sustainable investment strategies of Invest International.

• Network Expansion: Leverage and expand a high-value network of stakeholders both within the Netherlands and internationally.

• Senior Stakeholder Management: Act as a primary liaison for senior-level stakeholders, including Dutch clients, Dutch and international PE and VC funds, commercial banks, FMO, Invest-NL, ROMs, RVO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Atradius DSB.

• Mission-Driven: Possess an intrinsic motivation to combine sustainable impact with sound financial returns, alongside an entrepreneurial drive to build a new function.

• Professional Experience: At least 15 years of relevant background in equity investments, featuring a proven track record of executing international transactions. Specific experience within emerging markets is highly advantageous.

• Leadership Capabilities: Strong people management and interpersonal skills, with a dedicated focus on elevating team performance.

• Strategic Mindset: A self-starting, entrepreneurial approach paired with a strong "helicopter view"—the ability to balance complex stakeholder interests during high-level decision-making.

• Execution & Delivery: Highly solution-oriented, persistent, and possess excellent project and relationship management skills.

• Market Track Record: Demonstrated success in supporting and scaling the Dutch business sector within emerging markets.

• Languages: Fluency in English and excellent conversational/written proficiency in Dutch are required. Mastery of additional foreign languages is highly advantageous.

• Education: An advanced academic degree (Master's or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.

What we offer

• 12 months contract for 40 hours per week with potential to extend afterwards.

• Salary scale 19: this indicates a monthly gross salary range between €9,473 and €11249, excluding holiday allowance and 13th month based on a 40-hour workweek.
