Job Description - Mechanical Architect

Description

You are responsible for the architectural definition of new products and you will take the lead in the development and sustaining of products by specification, concept study, volume control, interface definition, design, mechanical calculations, analysis, drawings, qualification, integration and test execution of mechanical components, modules, and subsystems. In particular you will:

  • Develop and maintain the MDEV functional cluster roadmap, break down requirements, generate specifications and architecture, work on technology development needs for mechanical modules in DUV Imaging.
  • Take leadership of the design of mechanical and opto-mechanical systems which requires strong collaboration with other stakeholders such as Project Management, Systems Engineering, Technical Competence leads, Function and Domain Architects.
  • Support feasibility studies, create and validate new concepts and support detailed design and manage stakeholders.
  • Support the team with planning and prioritization and create architectural estimates of upcoming work.
  • Be the technical expert of the team, willing to accumulate knowledge of the technical portfolio and document and share that information.
  • Specify the requirements of the (sub-)modules and/or tooling needed to realize the required performance while keeping cost and cycle-time targets.
  • To achieve this you will use state of the art design methods and construction principles to ensure adequate designs that can be realized from a technical and supply chain perspective.
  • Guide the design to ensure the qualification and quality-mindset.
  • Deliver the technical product documentation that is needed to start the detailed design.
  • Cooperate with the factory and suppliers to identify and drive improvements on manufacture and integration.
  • Education and experience

  • Master’s or PhD degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronic / Optics.
  • At least 7 years of relevant working experience for MSc or at least 5 years of relevant working experience for PhD.
  • Track record of opto- and/or precision-mechanical designs, and well-developed analytical skills. Creating new designs from concept to detailed design stage. At least 3 year of experience in leading design teams of up to 5 design engineers.
  • Excellent knowledge in the field manufacturability of optical and mechanical parts and of designing complex multi-domain modules.
  • Preferably an experienced technical leader. Skilled in stakeholder management with fellow domain colleagues, suppliers, customers and business lines. Experienced in defining FEM analysis requirements (mechanical, thermal and modal) and evaluating the results.
  • Ability to clearly and logically communicate ideas and knowledge to various audiences, covering full range from large, complex systems to individual technical details.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technology and product development teams involving multiple stakeholders and constraints, balancing functional requirements against aggressive timelines and resource limitations.
