Job Description - (Senior) Project Engineer

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic project engineer in the chemical industry and ready to tackle challenging and multidisciplinary projects? Join our dynamic team where you will drive production efficiency and enhance safety and environmental performance. As part of the wider Argent team, you’ll support projects across our production site in Amsterdam, including our Biodiesel plants, Glycerine refinery plant, Membrane Bio Reactor Wastewater Treatment, and large Tank terminal, making a significant impact on our operations and carbon footprint.

(Senior) Project Engineer

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • S trategic Collaboration: Work closely with operational plant managers and production specialists to support them in troubleshooting operational issues and optimizing plant performance. The focus is on the newly built glycerine plant, water purification, and future biodiesel production expansion.
  • Project Implementation: Collaborate closely with a process engineer to develop projects to a clear scope. Your role will be to ensure the scope is executable, safe, delivered on time, and within budget when you take these well-defined projects and implement them successfully.
  • Innovative Project Management: Lead a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from €2 million plant extensions to minor modifications, all aimed at enhancing environmental, safety, and production performance by following a reflective project process structure.
  • Team Leadership: Develop and guide small teams, collaborating with Argent, EPCm contractors, and technology licensors. Supervising contractors in the field and coordinating their work in daily operations is key to your success and a big part of the role.
  • Change Management: Ensure all changes are safe, compliant, and reliable through the site’s management of change process, acting as a process engineering signatory.
  • Procurement Excellence: Partner with the procurement team to develop and implement contracting strategies that maximize value for Argent.
  • Project Controls: Use project controls to manage schedules, costs, and safety risks, reporting progress to both Argent and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Collaborate with Argent’s other sites to improve processes and provide engineering support, necessitating occasional travel within the Netherlands and to the UK.

About You

Qualifications

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or relevant to Sustainable Energy Technology.
  • Project Management Qualification or proven experience is mandatory.
  • Continuous Improvement training is advantageous.
  • Process Safety training.

Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Proven success in managing change projects following a gatekeeping process.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of the management of change process for chemical process plants.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to engage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership abilities to inspire action and to maintain focus on the purpose.
  • Commercial acumen and strong business analytical skills.
