To further develop and grow this ambition we are looking for a Specialist in R&D Computational Sciences - BASF | Nunhems - Haelen/Nunhem.
As an experienced Specialist Digitalization in R&D, you will help accelerate innovation in vegetable breeding by combining biology, data science, and software development. Your work will empower researchers with better data, smarter insights, and digital solutions that contribute directly to the development of improved vegetable varieties for customers and consumers worldwide.
In this role, you will:
- Design and develop data-driven solutions that support plant breeding and R&D decision-making.
- Build and maintain analytics pipelines and software applications that enable efficient and reliable scientific workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve digital processes and remove bottlenecks across breeding and technology teams.
- Explore and introduce new technologies, data sources, and analytical approaches that enhance breeding innovation.
- Contribute to the development of a future-focused technology roadmap for breeding and research.
- Work closely with scientists, breeders, and digital experts to deliver practical solutions with real business impact.
- Support the development of data management standards that improve accessibility, quality, and consistency across teams.
- Collaborate with colleagues across BASF's Agricultural Solutions organization to advance integrated technology development. [
Your Team
You will join the R&D Computational Sciences community within BASF | Nunhems, working at the intersection of biology, technology, and data science. Together with breeders, molecular scientists, data specialists, and software developers, you will help create digital capabilities that support research and accelerate innovation.
This is a highly collaborative and international environment where knowledge sharing, curiosity, and continuous improvement are part of everyday work. You will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple digital products and work with colleagues across functions, crops, and regions.
What knowledge and experience make you successful in this role?
- MSc degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience applying computational science solutions in an R&D environment.
- Experience working with scientific datasets, such as genetics, genomics, phenotyping, laboratory systems, or agricultural research data.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience building scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, version control, and CI/CD environments.
- Experience with Linux, cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, and workflow orchestration tools.
- Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
